Will NOT work with Windows ME
2003-09-20This scanner, its software, and Umax support stink. I cannot get the scanner to work with Windows ME and have tried all kinds of methods without success. What a waste of money! I paid over $200 for this worthless piece of equipment.

UMAX Products $ucks!
2003-09-03do not buy umax products... it is a total waste of money.
most of the time the drivers and software provided by the company does not work with the operating system you are using. in order for it to work properly you must go to their web site and download a patch that supposed to fix the problem but instead the patch conflicts with other softeware such as camera software or even the operating system (one more thing the drivers and patches at their website are not free).
I wrote to umax and they have never responded to any of the emails i have sent to them. I decided to call the support center and I was refered back to the website to download another patch. (very bad customer support)

My impressions after 1 year of use
2001-04-02I would give 5 stars to the scanner and only 3 stars to the driver. The scanner is realy good. Most valuable featues are big resolution and large scan area (8.5"x14"). It could do it's job very nicely if it had a good driver. VistaScan 3.52 (PC version)which is shipped with the scanner on a CD can only work on Windows 98. Umax makes no support for Windows 2000. The output image has too many reds and not very clear on some color borders. And no eyedropper tool to easily make background white.

Very nice features and affordable!
2001-02-20I purchased the 4000u scanner. I had another Umax scanner for many years after I replaced my Plustek unit (which I felt was awful!).
This scanner is fast, provides many features to serve most every need and is excellent for a unit in this price range. It is very easy to install and to install the software. Although the software is the typical limited edition programs with the typical bugs, most folks don't rely on these bundled packages anyway.
I am very pleased with this scanner and feel confident with the company having purchased one new and needing to work with customer service (who I found to be very adept in handling concerns and problems). I have not experienced this quick of service on a warranty in quite some time from any company. I would recommend the 4000u for home users and small offices where additional features to the standard scanners are available.

Best buy
2000-10-31This is an excellent piece of hardware, with quality and features rivaling those found on scanners used by my professional photography friends. Well built and very easy to install with the USB interface, the 4000U, coupled with a good printer and the right medium, will give photographic prints indistinguishable from any you'll get at the corner pharmacy. A wide range of choices of scanning resolution and color depth, plus the legal size scanning bed make this as versatile as you'll ever need a scanner to be. The only caveat would be the LE versions of Photoshop and Omnipage OCR, although these versions will certainly meet the needs of most users. This scanner is certainly worth the few extra bucks it costs more than the bargain-level scanners and will still be in use when the others have been put on the shelf.

Digital cameras are good for the environment
As we consider the digital camera revolution that has taken place over the last decade, most people think about it in terms of enhanced benefits for consumers. We can take a lot more pictures at much lower cost with digital cameras versus film cameras. We can also more easily manipulate and share those photos since they're all in the digital realm.
But one thing many people don't think about actually deserves mention as potentially the most profound effect of the digital camera revolution: how digital cameras greatly reduce the destructive impact on the environment compared to film cameras.
At first, you might think, "How can that be? My film camera didn't harm the environment!" Even though it wasn't your camera that harmed the environment, your film processing did indeed harm it. Any time you take your pictures to a photo processing center, that film is run through batches of chemicals. These chemicals are environmental hazards, and once they are used to process film, those chem ...
Why You Should Use A Mini DV Camcorder
Introduction
The mini DV camcorder has many advantages to offer its users. If you enjoy your digital video camera you will also enjoy this. The mini DV camcorder is easier to take with you than the regular sized cameras such as the hi definition camcorder, or the hi-Res camcorder. The size of this camcorder is one of its big advantages. The features this camcorder can offer are also great. Some cameras offer more features than others, so make sure that the camera has the features you want.

Generally when design, performance and technological improvements are made on electronic products there is a reduction in size as well to make them more compact.
For example the early day radios were built in large cabinets and required radio vacuum tubes. Eventually, transistor radios were constructed and were more portable. Today, a radio can be as small as a wristwatch.
Camcorders have also evolved in tec ...
