KitchenAid Stainless Steel Serving Tongs

I had purchased a pair of these tongs three years ago to use with my small grill on the boat. Ever sense my wife had been trying to find another pair but none of the local stores carried them. Finally got on line and found them, bought four pair, gave some to friends that kept wanting to borrow mine. They are called an all purpose tong, I agree, on the grill they can be used for just about anything, we even do pizza on the grill and these tongs are thin enough that you can get under the dough and wide enough that you can flip burgers. Grill 2-3 times a week and the original tongs are still like new. Only down side I can think of is that they are kind of short if used on a large grill with several steaks or sausages which flame up, need to be a little careful. Would recommend to buy, all my friends love the ones I got them.

While this product arrived promptly, I was disappointed in it because I was hoping for something much smaller. I did not find a measurement with the description before I ordered it. That would have been helpful.

I use them is so many ways. Serving, grilling, you name it!

It's a great asset at a dinner party especially for serving pieces of meat.

I bought these in the hopes of consolidating all my tong-needs into one attractive package. These make lovely salad and serving tongs. Even though I prefer 18/10 stainless, 18/8 is resaonable for this type of tool.

I had gotten tired of trying to manage tossing and serving large salads with oversized spoons and forks. It works but not all that effectively for me. I also needed tongs for turning things in pans. I had been a fork to stab at cooking meats in order to turn it which just allows the juices to flow out. In a pinch when I couldn't reach a spatula I would use a fork to try and turn fish as well, for shredded results. Turning scallops, shrimp, grilled veggies...all produced similar issues.

I was hoping to get just one tong and save space. I would have to say that I ultimately did buy a hinged tong becuase this works better as serving utensil than a cooking tool. With no hinge it's a bit hard to manage (stiff maybe to retain its shape). Tossing around spaghetti in a pan of sauce with these is a clumsy proposition. Ditto on some of the other things I tried. This doesn't seem to *close* quite solid and easily enough to make for a good cooking helper.

But....

It does make a lovely addition to my salad bowl. It does close a good amount to grasp salad. It springs back into shape easily without any malformations. It has cleaned up very well through all the times I have used it.

I bought this for myself but it would probably make a very nice gift with an attractive salad bowl, perhaps something that would go with it in style. The problem I have with it wasn't a problem with the item as much as what I had assumed the item to be. As a serving tong this is a very good item.
