KitchenAid Stainless-Steel Melon Baller, Red

this is the best melon baller I own. ok, I bought it for red kitchen theme... but someday I will need to ball a melon!

I have had it over a month now and it's a great melon baller - it makes perfect balls out of melon, or even watermelon and other kinds of fruit. The kids love it. The red handle is so pretty too, its like what I imagine a professional would use, because its red. Well weighted in the hand, sharp edge for easy balling, and its so good looking. I wonder if anyone actually hangs it from the hole on the other end? I recommend it.

A very nice size and a welcome change from the plastic throw away type melon ballers that I had been using. This is long enough to get down inside a watermelon without getting your sleeves sloppy.

18/8 stainless is good, 18/10 is better but this is solid enough for the task. It holds up and does not bend in the face of harder melons (cantelops, honeydews). With stainless steel you can put it in the freezer for a bit and scoop out beautiful little rounds of ice cream and sorbets for dessets. Or heat it under the tap to make it easier to scoop very hard ice cream.

I have used it to scoop out not only melons but, ice cream and frozen desserts (including granita which is a bit messy to wrangle), side dishes like potatos and rice and cookie dough.

I think the handle could have been more ergonomic but that is not to say it's bad, just that it could have been a bit better. It seems a solid piece of kitchen equiptment and appears that it will last for many years despite the one year replacement guarentee. ( I think it should be longer, this isnt a product that is used excessively).

Overall, I would give this a positive vote. It has a fairly good design and good contruction. It has multiple possible uses and could be stored easily.
