Works for just a little while
2007-01-09I bought two canoscans 3000f The troubleshooting manual was worthless -- and you'll need it not long after purchasing the canon 3000f. WHEN you find support downloads on the Canon site, you can install and uninstall all day and the scanner still won't work.
In fairness, it's a cheap scanner and Canon treats you as poorly as any of the other makers I've tried in the past, HP, Epson, and Umax.

3000f review
2003-08-27When scanning photos this scanner is everything I require.
The scanning software is easy to use with a good range of options.
However, when it comes to scanning slides it is most disappointing as they always come out dark.
To compensate I try tweaking the brightness and contrast settings in the software but the colors in the dark areas are never true. You can play around with the image in a photo-editing program but they are always disappointing and never get near the quality of color and clarity that you get when projected onto a screen.
If you want a scanner that scans slides then go for something else, and if all you need to scan is photos and documents then you don't need this scanner.
Beware of reviews that appear to parrot the sales blurb.

Plenty of bells & whisles, but poor image scanning
2003-06-17I've always been a big fan of Canon's scanners, but the Canoscan 3000f really let me down. I've been using the Canoscan n1240u and have always liked the great colors and vivid scans. I decided to upgrade to the new 3000f, manily because it will scan negatives and slides. Unfortunately, the reproduction quality on these types of scans are not very good. The color reproduction is very poor and the image quality, even at extremely high resolutions is not as true as it is on some of the less expensive Canon scanners. Even after having spent a lot of time working with various settings and options in the scanning software, the quality was still not as good as I would like to have seen. Hopefully Canon will get these problems fixed with their next line of film & photographic scanners.

Love my Canon CanoScan 3000F Scanner
2003-05-05I recently purchased the Canon CanoScan 3000F Scanner & not only did it arrive a lot faster then expected, but it works really well. I am really enjoying it. I am glad I bought this one. It's not to expesive, yet it has what I wanted & then some. The 5000F Scanner had a little to much for what I needed it for & the cheaper scanners didn't have some of the programs I needed. I would recommend this for people who wants a scanner for just home used. I like how fast it scans & how I can take the red out of the eyes. I also like how fast I can send a picture by email. The picture quality is really good.

excellent scanner
2003-04-22I recently purchased the Canon CanoScan 3000F and have been very pleased with how it has performed.
It was very easy to install. Just stick the CD in and follow the prompts (my Grandfather installed it and he has trouble composing email via hotmail!).
Some of the great features include being able to scan your negatives. That's right, even if you have ruined your photo, you can still scan the negative and have a crystal clear image on your PC. Scans of magazines, photos etc. have come out incredibly sharp with great resolution.
Specs:
1200 x 2400dpi & 48 bit input
USB 2.0 Hi-Speed interface for faster scanning speed
Included film adapter unit accepts one frame of 35mm film
Easy operation using Canon's exclusive multi-scan mode
One downside to the Canon is that it is a little bulky but overall it looks & performs great.
