Did not last one day!!!
2008-07-26I bought this together with a Canon Rebel XSi and some lenses, the whole kit from Cameta Camera. The items arrived intact and I looked like a kid on X-mas day. I opened the Vanguard VT-126 and extended it to test its features and on my first crank of the extension shaft...the crank stayed in my hand. Upon close examination, the shaft turned by the crank is made out of plastic, not metal. Hey designers, lose weight somewhere else, this part needs to be made out of metal or it will break, just a matter of time!
I paid $60 for it, but I see lots of options on Amazon.com for less than that with more stars.
Ohh, but if you decide you don't need to raise the tripod and looks are important to you, this tripod looks great!
it's a great tripod
2008-07-08Just getting started with this tripod; did a ton of research and this one really seems to be the best built for the money. The head rotation could probably be smoother if you're doing video, but for my Nikon D40 it's perfect. Very solid, easy to operate adjustments at every joint. I like it.
Solid Tripod at a good price
2007-06-06Recently purchased this tripod to replace a very old one. Great build quality, you can feel it by the weight, though it is not heavy. I like the quick release head, small enough for it to live on your camera and makes it very easy to clip right into the tripod when needed. Has a sturdy handle and a very cool "crank elevator" that adjusts the height.
Some things I would like to see improve: There should be an additional level on the head in addition to the body's level. And the bottom of the middle support should include a hook to add a weight for stability.
All in all a great product at a great price, I actually paid 60$ at Beach so here it's a great deal.

Digital camera batteries
Batteries are vital for all photography and makiing sure that you have a spare set is essential if you intend to take alot of pictures. Print digital also recommend that when deciding upon a digital camera keep in mind what sort of batteries it takes. Does it take rechargeable batteries, are the batteries built and do you have to plug it into the mains, or does the camera only take standard batteries, if so then it can become exspensive if you are a keen photographer and use the camera alot.
There are three types of rechargeable batteries: NiCD, NiMH and Lithium-Ion. Nickel Metal Hydride are the most popular rechargeable batteries at present. They hold more charge than their counter parts NiCD and don't suffer from memory effect. The one small down fall of these batteries is that they will loose a small amount of charge even if they are not being used, so be sure to check the batteries before using them.

Driving with a cell phone is a lot less dangerous than driving on prescription drugs
There's a lot of debate today about the safety of using cell phones while driving. Statistics show that those who use cell phones while driving cause a much greater percentage of accidents than those who avoid using their cell phones. And the studies have shown that it's not just the physical coordination required to punch numbers into the cell phone while you're trying to work the vehicle that causes accidents; it's actually the lack of attention resulting from driving and talking on the cell phone at the same time. It seems that when you're distracted, you're more likely to cause accidents.
In terms of public safety, it's probably correct to say that banning cell phones would reduce the number of traffic accidents. But I think, more accurately, it depends on the person. Some people are operating on, shall we say, lower power CPUs in their heads to begin with.
