Product Description:

Take a high-performance PowerPC G4 processor, add a wide-screen display, and enclose it all in a lightweight titanium case. Apple has just created the PowerBook G4 - and redefined portable computing. If you need the utmost power for creative design, education, or business, the PowerBook G4 is ready to provide it wherever you go. Making a notebook computer the slimmest and lightest in its category shouldn't have to mean making compromises in performance and functionality. What makes a supercomputer "super" is its ability to execute at least one billion floating-point operations per second. It's a staggering measure of speed known as a "gigaflop". In addition, the PowerPC G4 can perform four (in some cases eight) 32-bit floating-point calculations in a single cycle - two to four times faster than traditional processors. The PowerPC G4 with Velocity Engine works with the PowerPC architecture to accelerate the data-intensive processing required by next-generation video, voice and graphics applications.Among the G4 key features is a vector permute function capable of rearranging data in the registers - a priceless benefit when converting data from one format to another (often necessary with voice, video and graphics applications, which typically need to save data in a number of different formats). These vector-processing acceleration advantages give the G4 microprocessor a significant edge when it comes to fast visualization of large data sets and intensive math for real-time simulations, making the PowerPC G4 perfect for everything from digital video, graphics and 3D games to astronomy, the biosciences and predictive modeling.

Customer Reviews

Convert!2007-07-01
Like many others, I switched. I made the switch from PC to MAC. And yes, like many others, I love it. The difference between the two machines is unmistakable and the software is seamless and intuitive. I bought my machine four years ago, and because I lived in Kuwait at the time, I experienced something of a language barrier with the local customer service agents and rarely used the machine. Because I'm unfamiliar with the machine, I registered for the One on One service at the local Apple dealer. The tutorial seemed to go well and I learned a lot while there. My customer service rep even went as far as to give me his cell number, just in case. Contrary to popular belief, my experiences with the dreaded Apple computer customer service agents have all been cordial, personable and informative. Keep in mind, I'm not a computer geek, (not that that's a bad thing) so I don't know, what I don't know. They, of course, suggested that I do the typical updates, as I hadn't done any software updates in over four years, and it enhanced the performance of the machine. I issue this appraisal however, with a few caveats. I've noticed that the cursor on my keyboard sometimes bounces around; so much so, at times it gets a bit annoying. I've also noticed that from time to time my screen momentarily goes blank, but my biggest complaint is the battery life or lack thereof. Despite these warnings, I've fallen firmly in love with my PowerBook. I do, however, have to warn those of you who are debating the PC vs. MAC conversion. Apple products are expensive (maybe too expensive)! When and if you do have any mishaps, be prepared to dig deep into your pockets or pocketbooks. I recommend patiently familiarizing yourself with Apple products before making the switch; otherwise, it could be a costly experience; thus, my conservative rating. With that said, don't let my conservative rating sway you because like I said earlier in the review, I love this machine.
Thumbs up for Apple!2005-10-16
I honestly never used a Mac before until I purchased this Powerbook (same specs) before college started. Although I lack knowledge of the Apple features, it is very user-friendly. Not only this notebook very good-looking from the outside, the performance works very well. The built-in features are very hassle free, no need to buy for wireless cards to detect wireless connection.

The only downside is the price, but for someone who looks for quality and ease, price does not matter. Actually, price is worth it.

first time apple user2005-09-16
Okay, so I've had a PC desktop, laptop, etc and usually looked at apple computers with disdain especially the ones I used as a kid in elementary school. But Apple has come an amazingly long way with the introduction of this powerbook which I consider to be the best purchase I've made in a long time. I thought it would be some what difficult to adjust from a PC to a Mac, but this powerbook is so user friendly, that after I took it out of the box it practically set itself up. What else can I say abou tthis laptop besides its just great! No crashing, voice command that can even tell you knock knock jokes, an impressive processor, beautiful design, illuminating keyboard, great bluetooth capability, and even the touchpad works beautifully. They say once you go mac you never go back, and its true. No more PCs for me!
I love my new Powerbook2005-08-30
This was my first Mac purchase, and I am very pleased. The keyboard is very comfortable for typing and the 15 inch screen is awesome. I had to add an additional gig of Ram because the base 512mb is too low, and it was sluggish.

The hard drive is a bit small too, but I will eventually pick up an external hard drive.

The included Mac software is awesome. I really am happy with my purchase.
