perfect introduction to digital photography2010-01-09
I have used this video in my introductory digital photography class for three years running now and have found it wonderfully helpful for demonstrating in the field the full gamut of tips and photo techniques we read about in textbooks. Jim is a good teacher, crystal clear in his delivery and knowing when something is likely to be unclear without further demonstration. He also has a charming natural style of delivery that makes the viewer feel like another friend out on the photo shoot with him. The use of a wild animal farm as the setting for much of the series of shooting situations also works well and gives the lessons enough variety that the lessons always seemed fresh as we moved through the modules every week. I highly recommend his courses.
Fine photographic reference in DVD format.2009-02-18
Nice to keep going back to it for new ideas. Thoughtfully put together making it a pleasure to learn-as-you-watch so to speak.
dissapointing2009-01-13
I was really disappointed with the DVD that I ordered . The info is very basic and is just right for beginners . I thought that there will be a lot more insights into what the photographer has discovered , but the photography has been explained with tame and circus animals . Definitely need to be marked as a beginners guide to wildlife photography . All the right things but too basic . Would have spent my 22 dollars in a better manner .
Great Value2008-09-16
This DVD is great for beginners and a good refresher of the basics for everyone. It nicely complements "The Betterphoto Guide to Digital Photography". A great value for the price.
Not what I expected...unfortunately.2008-07-14
I ordered this DVD hoping to learn the basics of photography. As a beginner, I was looking for more technical information and explanation. The majority of the time he spoke as if the viewer should already know most of the technical information i.e., fstops, aperature, etc., and talked more about the cameras themsleves. However, at other times he was very basic with information, so his consistency left much to be desired. I did learn about lighting and composition to a degree. It seemed to be more about him and his team getting the pictures of the animals for than it was about digital photography. I think it could have been presented better and focused more on photography itself and less on the animals and capturing the perfect shot in the moment. More technical explanation without him rushing to get the shot of the animal would have been better. Maybe I just chose the wrong DVD for what I was looking for, but even after trying to make the most of it I didn't think the flow or continuity was well done at all.
