Good sender for the price
2008-10-20I just finished a 2-week sanding project with this sander. I do like it quite a bit. The sander feels sturdy and well-built overall. I like the mechanism that keeps the sand paper attached. The paper stays firmly in place. Vibration is there but not terrible. Dust collection works pretty well; it seems to collect about 75% of the dust generated. If I was in the market for a sander for around $50 I'd probably end up buying this one again.

Works good.
2008-09-16Simple pad sander. They are all pretty much the same, I've had this one for a couple of years and it is still working good. No complaints.

disapointing
2007-08-28This unit is ligth and is comfortable in my hand.
It is relatively quiet.
The dust collection is relatively inefficient. Unless I got a model that was not balanced properly, the vibration are out of control for a sander of this size. Not surpisingly, the scratch pattern is not good.

Adapter Doesn't Fit 2 Of My Shop Vacuums!
2007-08-09This is a good sander, don't get me wrong, It is strong, has less vibration than some and the tear drop shape fits the hand; However, I already own a Dewalt and only purchased this one because it supposedly fit common sized vacuum hoses. Plus, I think the customer support was awful.
I own 2 different shop vacs, one with a large hose (a Rigid) and another with a one with a small hose (Wallmart brand) and neither of them fit onto or into the sander. I also tried it on the tiny Shark just to see, and it doesn't fit it either. It's not a matter of not squeezing it on, they literally butt up against the ring that is supposed to fit them.
I called DeWalt and got a condescending rep that was no help. He kept "deciding" what was going on whether or not it was in any way accurate. My suspicion is that since I was female, he "decided" I didn't know what I was talking about. He "decided" that I was talking about an orbital sander despite me giving him the product number several times and correcting him several times. Later, after I had told him it was a palm sander yet again he said "well, when you said orbital sander..." Ah, I see, I thought, MY mistake. Next, he decided I obviously didn't know where I was supposed to be hooking it up to the sander, and explained where it was several times despite me asserting, and displaying that I did know. Then he "decided" that the hoses fit and that I just wasn't pushing them on tightly enough. After explaining to him several times that there wasn't a possibility of pushing or wiggling as the hoses both butted up against the rings he had me measure the hose. Finally, he "decided" that they couldn't make an adapter to fit "every hose" and that there was nothing he could do and that I should "make an adapter."
*sigh*

Solid
2006-12-16Truely outstanding palm sander. I bought it to replace an old Black&Decker "toy" which just stopped running. This DeWalt is clearly built of quality parts. It feels like professional gear in your hand. The additional dust collector feature is definitely a plus.
