Bad after 1 1/2 years2008-11-28
I got this item in 2006 and after a year and a half, it started skipping and occasionally freezes up completely which requires taking the DVD out and reinserting it. I'm not a heavy user, so it was watched less than 20 times a year. It was one of the first generation of upconverting players to come out, so I'd go for something that's newer.
It is alright I guess2008-01-12
This DVD player is OK. In hindsight, I should have picked up a Toshiba HD DVD player or the PS3 and used their upconverting features. In fact, this is exactly what I have done and this player is sitting in a drawer. In the era of HD DVD and Blu-ray both with upconverting abilities, these DVD players are for the non-HD folks like my parents. You know, the people who buy HDTV and hook them up with composite cables or S video ( or who still have a VCR with a clock that flashes 12:00 forever, eeek).
If you are into HD or even thinking about it in the near future, make the leap and you'll never look back. If you think 1080p is a rap singer, than this is the DVD player for you.

This is a pretty good purchase. I like that it came with an HDMI cord, which I'm not sure it still does. Honestly, I can't say that I notice a tremendous improvement over progressive scan, but it does work well overall. I'd almost say one should wait a little longer, and then make the upgrade to true HD playback via bluray or HD DVD.
Good DVD player, but...2007-06-10
This is a good DVD player (good picture, and low-profile), however, like the other reviews say...it is V-E-R-Y...S-L-O-W. I bought this DVD player because it was one of the first "non-HD" players with 1080i & HDMI outputs. It takes way too long to load up the disc once you put it in. Also, the menus are very sluggish, and not very intuitive at all. I would rate this specific DVD player "AVERAGE" at best. I would definitely consider other ones first...do your research, and then come back to this one if you don't like anything else.

Samsung DVD-HD960 Up-Converting DVD Player
never worked!2007-06-10
This product came highly recommended by our AV guy who was putting together our media room. We purchased it (not through him) and he got it all installed and looked like everything was going well. About 20 minutes into playing the first DVD it "skipped". It dropped sound and picture for about 2 or 3 frames. At first we thought it was having a problem upscaling the dvd...but even at native resolution it continued. We contacted Samsung and were told we had to ship it to the service center in California. I talked to another AV guy who said they had an office FULL of these players that have quit working or have this skipping problem. Looks like we'll be buying the Toshiba to replace it!

A Quick Look At the Professional Digital Camcorder
Introduction Professional digital camcorders are better than your analog camcorder, or even your digital video camera. The advancements that have been made in the camcorder industry are amazing.
