Like no one else, Brazilian born Cibelle makes use of a variety of elements to create unique, imaginative and enchanting peices of music. Her second album (the follow-up to 2003's inspired eponymous debut) is a genuine masterpiece. Moving into even more adventurous sonic terrain than its predecesor, the "Shine Of Dried Electric Leaves" combines rootsy acoustic instrumentation, electronic processing, noise guitars & children's toys, captivating textural soundscapes & pure melodies all anchored by Cibelle's unmistakable, moving voice. Cibelle produced this album over a period of 18 months, taking some of the tracks with her from London (where she now resides) to Sao Paulo (her home town) and back, gathering along the way contributions from various co-producers and performers, including Mike Lindsay (from UK Folktronica act Tunng);Apollo Nove (the innovative producer/artist from Sao Paulo, who produced most of her debut album); Parisian mixer, Yann Arnaud (Air, ! Sebastien Schuller), and guests such as Seu Jorge (of "City of God" and "The Life Aquatic' fame), freak folk pioneer, Devendra Banhart, and CocoRosie collaborator Spleen. While some of the album's ten original compositions and three covers are simple, limpid crytalline gems (her renditions of Tom Waits' "Green Grass" and of Jobim's "Por Toda Minha Vida" to name but a few).

Cibelle has a brazilian face and vibration of Brazil2007-09-03
The most important characteristic the Brazilian singers have is: multicultural sounds, faces and rhythms. Cibelle is just that. Probably that is why the Brazilian Cultura is so rich. It does not matter if it has a British accent like Cibelle has. That is what makes the country and the people happy. When she sings in Portuguese, one can feel the soul vibrating like it is in "Cajuina". She is sweet.

Like no other vibe I've heard; this chick can sing. With subtle yet eclectic instrumentation and no preconception of a particular sound, Cibelle and friends will take you on a majic carpet ride of musical enchantment and dreamers' bliss. She shows inventiveness and resourcefulness on THE SHINE OF DRIED ELECTRIC LEAVES, with fresh down-to-earth and personal yet universal lyrics that pour from the heart and speak to the soul. Featuring tracks in both Portugese and English, this album moves you no matter what language you do or don't speak. The natural sounds of guitars and vocals meld magically with the electronic percussions and "sub-bass" accompaniment as she calls it.

Noteworthy guest artists include vocals by Devendra Banhart (London, London), Spleen (Green Grass, Mad Man Song), and Seu Jorge (Arrête lá, Menina). The opening track (Green Grass) is a refreshing cover of an old Tom Waits song of the same title.

A little latin, a hint of jazz, not too big, not too small, just cool. Some feel-good music to chill to.
Not too bad...2007-04-28
I was expecting a lot more from this CD after the self titled one but while this may be a worthwile buy it will take its time to work on you.

Music wise her vocals have an upbeat feel to them and go well with the music, they kind of drift along. This is a great CD to have in your car on one of those warm days driving to work in the city.

If you are looking for anything similar to Bebel Gilberto however, as I was you may be a little disappointed at first but I asure you, listen to it a few times it will grow on you.

I'm just finishing listening to this album for the fist time, and I'm definitely rating it thumbs up. It's much more interesting than what I've heard from her before. But I have to say that "Arrete la, Menina" with Seu Jorge absolutely LEAPS off this album. It's amazing. I stopped and repeated it immediately the first time it finished. Wow!
A sweet and sultry find2007-02-18

Cibelle is simply a magnificent songstress. The music is soft and undemanding, the perfect background music for any task or to be soaked in fully with absolute devotion.
