Great Picture
2008-11-28We've had this TV in our bedroom since we first bought it late in 2006. I wanted a warm HDTV image, vs. the more 'digital' looking high def images I've seen on LCD or Plasma HDTVs (I also own a 50" plasma that rocks.) Anyway, this Samsung slimfit displays a great picture and wasn't as deep as the other tube TVs I found, making it better suited for the dresser where we have it sitting. Being a 30" tube TV, it is heavy (130 lbs.?) so be aware of that. But the picture is fantastic.
I took it down to 4 stars, however, for one reason: We also use it for our alarm clock, and you can set the TV to use either the time from the cable system or set the time manually (you can also set A/V source, channel, and volume on wakeup, which is very nice.) It works great getting the time from the cable system, but if it loses signal from the cable company, the clock resets to zero, and it doesn't automatically retrieve the time from the cable system - so if there is any kind of signal problem from the cable company, the TV won't wake us up in the morning. However, setting the clock manually works well, unless the TV loses power - then the clock also resets to zero.

Was good, now it's terrible
2008-01-29I purchased this product in July 2006. At that time LCD television were very expensive, and the Slim Fit sets just seemed like a practical idea.
The TXS3082WH worked well until I noticed that the screen image wasn't proper. Top and bottom were wavy and when watching 4:3 shows, the sides were also wavy. Since there is no real way for me to correct this myself I had to live with it.
Then my HDMI 1 stopped working properly and my audio/video would not sync properly on my upconverting dvd player, which was a complete plain. I'd pause a movie and there would be a delay in audio.
Now we're into 2008, and being the guy who hates calling customer service and having any repaired (have 4 year best buy warranty) I finally decided I had to call them because now only are the 4 corners of the screen going blurry, but I'm getting dark shadows at the top corners, and I'm getting a ridiculous yellow then green cloud that runs about an inch from the top of the screen and is horizontal running about 3 inches when I'm watching a show that has cloudy skies.
The major retailers have stopped selling this type of television because they do have inherit issues. So if your like me, the guy who has a tv for a very long time and in just content with not having the newest and best electronics, you don't want to buy this television. Give it a couple of years, if that, and it will start to fall apart. Mind you it has nothing to do with being a Samsung TV, but it's a problem with all Slim Fit CRT HDTV.

2nd set and it is still JUNK....
2007-12-22Okay here's the deal. This set is a replacement of my original slimfit 30 TX-R3081WH. The reason that it was replaced was due to the audio ausilators (the things on the mother-board that make the sound). They made a terrible high pitched sound which drove me and my son crazy. The technical support was good and they had the TV serviced 2 times. The technicians were unable to locate the problem because the sound was intermittent. They did there best and eventually sent me a brand new "UPGRADE". With-in 2 months the new TV was doing the same thing. I was pissed and didn't call customer service to report the problem (BIG MISTAKE). The reason I didn't was because the new TV's high pitch was not as bad and went away fairly quickly. Fast forward a year and the set has just went haywire on me. The high pitch sound is back and is extremely loud. My father was talking to my son on the phone and was able to hear the sound over the phone when my son was sitting 10 feet way from the set. After the set warms up (usually within 5 minutes the sound goes away. However, the sound will periodically come back. I have yet to call Samsung about this because I know the answer will be tuff luck it's out of warrenty. I will update this post to let everyone know how this was resolved. Needless to say I won't buy another SAMSUNG TV. That is to bad because I experienced no problems that other people have complained about. The picture was outstanding and I experienced no bowing of the picture.

Sleak Apperance, Good Connectivity but very poor Picture.
2007-11-04I had this CRT HDTV now little over a year. This is my 2nd.
This Screen also bows on top and bottom of the screen. But only heavily noticeable in SD mode and 420i/p (4:3).
The effect is gone during fullscreen HD 720,1080 (16:9).
The biggest annoyance is that the screen does not fit in the picture.
I mean you can not read the bottom and/or top news bar on cnn, or when watching a sportsgame like football.
Same with my Videogame picture. It really sucks that i can not see the info on top and bottom !! The connectivity is very good (HDMI, Optical Audio etc.)
Avoid this TV if its for your primary livingroom. Ok for bedroom.
