Outstanding refurbished printer2009-06-29
The six ink tanks (disappointed I couldn't use the ink tanks from my Cannon 6000 - 6700 ink tanks require a chip)produce outstanding photos. I can still refill the tanks as I did with the 6000. The refurbished printer is working like a charm - no problems. Refurbished computers are a completely different story - stay away.
TRASH!2009-05-17
Love frustrating encounters with devices that don't work as they're supposed to? Then you'll love the iP6700D! This printer seldom does anything for me without fifteen minutes of fiddling and cajoling. It's not that I do complicated things with it, or that using it is particularly complicated. It simply does not work most of the time. For example, the bluetooth won't put out a signal until I turn it off and on several times. Or the paper tray thinks it's empty when it's got half a ream sitting in it. Or it thinks one color of ink is empty when it isn't. Ink runs out quickly, also, and is extortionately priced; but that's pretty standard for a printer. Mainly, this printer is just TRASH and DOES NOT WORK RELIABLY.

prone to jam--a design flaw?2009-01-26
Canon pixma ip6700d
I have owned this printer now for more than a year. Twice it has suffered a paper jam in which the paper was inaccessible inside the printer. Although there is a local warrnaty station (in Dallas), the distance is such that a roundtrip would entail 90 minutes or more. Therefore I returned it to Canon and received a refurbished replacement, which also jammed. I have now received a second replacement (also refurbished) but have limited its use mostly to large photo prints. Most text I print on a much less expensive printer with less expensive ink. I have never used the paper tray provided with the Canon and use only good quality paper. Very good results with previous Canon printers. A design flaw here!
Prints too much orange and red, everyone comes out sunburnt2008-10-27
My husband bought me this printer for my birthday and at first I was thrilled with the crisp quality of the photos, the user-friendly interface of the software, and the ease with which I was able to connect my laptop, upload photos, and just print. My parents were thrilled with the new batches of photos coming every week of my then-infant daughter.

But after a month, I started noticing that the pictures looked a little funny. My daughter always looked a little bit too pink.

It wasn't quite so noticeable at first--it always appeared like she just had a healthy flush to the skin. But photos of myself (and I have an asian complexion) looked way too orange. This is even though I was using the more expensive Canon Photo Pro paper. I started printing more and more photos and noticed that my white couch, my beige chair, my cream colored walls -- they all appeared pinkish or orange-ish in all the photographs. I knew there was a definite problem when I took out the ink cartridge and noticed that the blue ink was about 75% full and the red ink was about 10% full. Unless I was consistently taking pictures of apples or Arizona sunsets, that should not be happening.

Since we were still under warranty, we contacted Canon and they informed us that we had to take it to an authorized repair shop. Luckily, there was one in Philadelphia near us, but it took a 40 minute drive to get there and drop it off. (There were very few service centers in general; I imagine that if you were stuck in the middle of Pennsylvania, for instance, you'd have to pay to ship it in.) It stayed in the shop for a couple weeks only for us to pick it up and be told "There's nothing wrong with it." We called Canon and told them that the problem still existed after bringing it home and still getting pink photos. Brought it back to the repair shop...again. Told once again that there was nothing wrong with it, even though this time we were armed with photographic evidence of our too pink/orange family and furniture. They glanced at the photos and when we suggested that they print one of our photos from the JPEG (we had it on a CD for them), they scoffed.

Ultimately, Canon sent us another printer and included a return postage label for us to return the defective one. YAY! Unfortunately, using the new printer, we saw the exact SAME problems. I scoured the internet in search of reviews or complaints that other people may have had similar problems. I did find two people who complained of the same, but that's it. At least one other person on this product review page mentioned that Canon had red cast problems with their ip6600 photo printer. I'm so disappointed that with the many many positive reviews of this product that I seemed to have gotten two duds. I wonder if anyone else may have had the same problems after extended use?

Will not be buying another Canon for awhile.

Driving with a cell phone is a lot less dangerous than driving on prescription drugs
There's a lot of debate today about the safety of using cell phones while driving. Statistics show that those who use cell phones while driving cause a much greater percentage of accidents than those who avoid using their cell phones. And the studies have shown that it's not just the physical coordination required to punch numbers into the cell phone while you're trying to work the vehicle that causes accidents; it's actually the lack of attention resulting from driving and talking on the cell phone at the same time. It seems that when you're distracted, you're more likely to cause accidents. In terms of public safety, it's probably correct to say that banning cell phones would reduce the number of traffic accidents. But I think, more accurately, it depends on the person. Some people are operating on, shall we say, lower power CPUs in their heads to begin with. They might be zoned out on prescription drugs, and when you add a cell phone to the equation, they do become a danger to the ...
Printer Buying Guide
What kind of printer is best for me? Choosing the right printer can be a daunting task. There are several different types of printing technology to choose from, each suited for different needs. Printers come in all shapes and sizes, from tiny travel companions to workgroup workhorses; some are geared toward photographers, others are for multitaskers. And the many specifications for resolution and speed can be misleading. As a rule of thumb, inkjet printers are a must for long-lasting photos, while laser printers are best to produce speedy text documents.
