Product Description:
Diana Ross may have hand-selected the 14 songs on this disc, but as its executive producer she didn't do her domineering reputation justice. Arrangements sag when they should snap-to. At times they're dozy. Occasionally, as in Berlin's "Take My Breath Away," they drown themselves in melancholy. But the good news is that they don't pull Diana's vocals down with them. There are moments on
I Love You when the world's most distinguished diva positively purrs (Harry Nilsson's classic "Remember," which opens and closes the disc), and others when she digs deep ("To Be Loved"); 40-plus years into her career, her voice is still her own. In addition to the arrangements, problems with this imperfect disc include the songs themselves which, in this age of carefully calculated comebacks, could have been better edited (Spiral Staircase's "More Today Than Yesterday" is Ross's speed; Paul McCartney's contemplative "I Will" isn't). Still, when Diana goes for redemption she does it up big, true to form, and where
I Love You redeems itself best is on its sole original composition. Title track "I Love You" is pure valentine; a heartfelt burst that, in three sweetly sung words, speaks volumes.

Customer Reviews

Somebody please stop Jonathon Taylor from bashing Diana Ross's albums!
2008-11-30Why is Amazon allowing Jonathon's one star reviews of Diana Ross's albums? He has absolutely zero respect for Diana Ross's talent! He gave "The Boss" one star. He gave "Last Time I Saw Him" one star. He gave "Everything Is Everything" one star. He gave "Touch Me In The Morning" one star. He even gave "I Love You" one star. Like I said, he has a complete lack of respect for Diana Ross's talent. He loves Mariah Carey, Pro Wrestling, and, oh man...he loves Beyonce Knowles, while denying Diana Ross the respect she deserves. I recommend that all who love Diana Ross's albums to go bring Jonathon Taylor, and bring him before Miss Ross, so that he will answer to her for his unforgivable acts.
Now, to this album.
This is the most beautiful album ever made by Miss Ross. Every song on this album is beautiful. Every time I listen to it, I can understand the message that is in this album. I love Miss Ross's version of "Take My Breath Away". Her harmonizing in the second verse is truly amazing. This album is one of the best ever done. This album comes highly recommended. Just buy the album. You won't be sorry. Just enjoy this album, and don't let naysayers who say otherwise get in your way.
Diana Ross is coming for you, Jonathon Taylor. When she reads one of your reviews of her work, you better watch out, because she is coming for you. You better be ready to run, otherwise, you will be begging for mercy!

Jonathon Taylor is indeed Mary Wilson in Men's clothing!
2008-11-05Did you people check his reviews? He gave Miss Diana Ross's albums one star. He hates Diana Ross, loves Vonda Shepard, Mariah Carey, and Pro Wrestling. He has a complete lack of respect for Miss Ross's talent, and he prefers Luther Vandross and Mariah Carey's version of the song "Endless Love" over Diana and Lionel's version. Oh look...he even gave this album one star. That would indicate a total disregard for real emotion, and real music. I urdge you people to get Jonathon, and bring him before Diana Ross, so that he would answer to her for his unforgivable comments.
Now that I got that out of the way, I can begin.
This album is a beautiful album. Every time I listen to it, I hear something inspiring. Every song on this Cd is sung from her heart. It was great to hear Miss Ross sing "Only You and You Alone", because the way she does it was absolutely beautiful to hear. When I hear her sing "Always And Forever", I start smiling, and a day of sadness turns into a day of happiness, sunshine, and joy. Also, hearing her sing the song of "I Will" was a great listening experience. Her version of "Take My Breath Away" was absolutely amazing. I love her harmonizing in the second verse. This album comes highly recommended. Ignore Jonathon's review of this album, and click add to cart. Do it for Miss Ross.
Watch your step Jonathon. Miss Diana Ross is coming for you. Prepare yourself.

A Welcome Return and a Classy Concept
2008-11-03Okay, after waiting several years for new material from Diana, it actually took me awhile to get use to hearing her sing songs that were new to her repertoire. Wrapping "Remember" as the opening and closing concept song was a minor stroke of brilliance. It is not unusual for artists that have been around as long as Diana has to do an album of their favorite covers. But what is not fair, is that Diana has always interpreted the Great American Songbook from the beginning of her career as lead singer of The Supremes. (Not that all these songs will deserve such a place in the American musical lexicon). Her renditions of McCartney's "I Will" is simple and hearfelt, "What About Love" from "The Color Purple" cast album is dramatic and divaesque. She tips her hat to her mentor Berry Gordy in her treatment of his penned cover of "To Be Loved". My favorite has to be the Ross/Motown-like "More Today than Yesterday", one of those one hit wonders by Spiral Staircase that never grows old. Two well worned songs could have been disappointing but she manages to put her stamp on an edited version of Rod Temperton/Heatwave classic "Always and Forever" and the Joe Cocker "You Are So Beautiful". I even like the county fair muzak sound of "This Magic Moment".
Where she underserves is a nondescript reading of one of my favorite songs, "The Look of Love", a limp reading of the tired "Take My Breath Away" and her staid interpretation of Bill Wither's "Lovely Day" and the okay too-MOR-ish original "I Love You". One of the pleasant turns is the wild and fun take on Queen's "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" complete with an authentic guitar solo from Brian May.
This is a nice addition to my comprehensive catalog of Ross' music while we await an album of new songs.
I only wish she would have used the concept of "Remember" in her critically and commercially acclaimed return to performing. It would have at least infuse some newness to a repertoire that her hardcore fans know verbatim.

Jonathon Taylor has to go!
2008-10-22Check out his other reviews. Either he has a personal grudge against Miss Ross, or he is Mary Wilson in men's clothing. He has a complete lack of respect for the musical talent that this woman has, and he gave her one star just because she talks crap about World Wrestling Entertainment. Why? Professional Wrestling is fake, and made for entertainment purposes. It's time to show this fool the door, and give Miss "Talented" Ross the respect she deserves.
Anyway, this is a great album. Every time I listen to it, I get wrapped up in a blanket of warmth, and happy feelings that this Cd gives. Every song that is on this Cd is filled with warmth and love, and the way Miss Ross sings these songs was the way they were meant to be sung. It's true, because I listened to it, and it was a great listening experience. Hearing Miss Ross singing "Always And Forever" was truly a beautiful day of sunshine for me. Highly recommended.
Watch your step Jonathon. Miss Ross is coming for you, and she's going to get you. Look out!
Beware of your words people. I know I am!

Jeffrey Christian has to go!
2008-05-30Why is it that Jeffrey Christian's one star review is stil on this board? His review calls Miss Ross "Disputable Repute", and says that she doesn't have much of a voice. F*ck him! What does he know!
Anyway, this album is one that warms the heart. Every time I listen to this album, I feel like I'm safe and warm from the cold, unfeeling outside world. Songs like "More Today Than Yesterday", "Always And Forever", "Remember", and "Take My Breath Away" are the most beautiful songs that I have ever heard. Highly recommended. I also recommend that you people show Jeffrey Christian the door, and pay Diana Ross the respect she deserves. Ignore this review, and click "Add To Cart"!
