Beware...2009-02-15
This telescope was the first I have bought for myself. I wanted to find a inexpensive telescope to get started. The old adage "You get what you pay for" has rung true often, but I must say it falls short with this. First off, for $50 USD, it is cheap to buy. The Electronic eyepiece is retailed for $100 USD so off the bat, its a steal. Once I tightened up loose bolts and screws (on fine tune Lat control) It actually surpassed my expectations for Terrestrial viewing, have been unable to accurately test on celestial matter as it has been raining since the morning the telescope arrived. If money is tight, do yourself a favor, get this. If you can hold out though, I recommend Meade's AZ70 or even AZ80. StarLocator Astronomy Software is Sweet! If you have a GOTO mount, and a Telescope with a PC interface, Software will show on the monitor the object you want, as the computer moves the Telescope for you. Beginners beware... GOTO should be used AFTER you learn the Heavens.
Great Wedding Gift!2009-01-27
The telescope arrived quickly (across the country!) and was packaged beautifully...I'm very happy since this will be a wedding gift!
Meade StarQuest Telescope2009-01-19
This telescope does its job for the low price. We are able to see the craters on the moon, and you can actually see more clusters of stars looking through it than you can see with the naked eye. We have not tried the electronic eyepiece yet, so no comment there. It was easy to assemble. The only thing I was unhappy with was the extra lens' seemed cheap and crappy. The plastic protective covers didn't fit very well, but that's not a big deal. You could probably find something else to keep the lens in or buy better ones somewhere. When we opened the box, some of the items had shifted during shipment. The inner packaging was not very secure. There was no problem with my telescope, but the poor packaging is a potential for something to get broken if not shipped carefully.
