Product Description:
There were some nights during his triumphant starring run as the villainous Gaston in the Broadway production of Beauty and the Beast when Donny Osmond's mind was racing. No, he wasn't trying to remember his next line; rather, he was thinking about the album he was in the process of recording. Backstage. In his dressing room. "It was totally bizarre" he laughs. "I would perform my role onstage, and then I would run back to my dressing room and fix a vocal I didn't like. Sometimes it was just a word; other times it was an entire verse or chorus.
The album is called Love Songs of the 70s, and once you hear it, you'll know why. Donny gave it his all -- he could perform vocals to completed musical tracks in his dressing room whenever he liked, a ritual he followed each afternoon -- and, as it so happened, some nights as well. Describing himself as a "Type-A perfectionist," Donny admits his that work habits might have confounded his co-stars. "But when a record means as much as this one, you do whatever it takes to make it special."
True to its title, Love Songs of the 70s is a collection of some of the most memorable romantic pop and R&B ballads of a golden, multi-platinum era. Just a casual glance at some of the songs will transport listeners back to a special place in their lives: "Laughter in the Rain," "Oh, Girl," "If," "Let's Stay Together," "How Deep Is Your Love," "You Are So Beautiful," -- these are some of the priceless selections Donny has chosen for this remarkable set. "That's what's so amazing about these songs," says Donny. "They're time capsules, capable of moving you in so many powerful ways. What's more, if a song is truly a classic, as these certainly are, their importance grows through the decades because of what you, the listener, bring to them. I've always loved hearing these songs, and I especially love singing them."

Wow!!
2009-09-15Anyone that knows me well knows that I am a huge fan of Donny Osmond. Osmond, much like Asschowder, has an ability to take song written by average people and turn them into something worthwhile. He not only makes these songs better than the originals, he embarrasses the original artist to the point where they are no longer allowed to perform them live. We do the same thing to any cover we do. We do a version of People are People that pretty much made Depeche Mode stop performing the song for a period of 7 months. Osmond does the same thing to all of these so called "good songs" of the 70s. My favorite is obviously "Mandy". Manilow is freaking genius, but Osmond takes a Manilow song, rolls it in cornmeal batter, fries it up and eats it while Manilow is stading there with a big wet spot on the front of his pants.
I remember one time where we played Hastings and decided we were going to cover "What's on your mind (pure energy). Information society was there working the concession stand and Burns kicks into the keyboard solo at the beginning. J-Abs was playing flawless guitar and Kroll was cranking up his amplified washboard. I came running onto the stage in a full sprint and tackled a cardboard cutout of My Dad's old boss. I stood up, grabbed the mic and screamed PURE ENERGY!!!! The crowd went nuts and started throwing fruit cups at each other. It was out of control, but so in control. Probably the greatest night Hastings has ever seen.
The crowd was standing room only that night, which meant average stayed home and played D & D with Ryan Seacrest.

Bring back the 70's
2008-09-14This a great C.D for bringing back those specail memories, there was more than one song on this C.D. where I had tears in my eyes. You seem to remember what you were doing when a particular song is played, and with Donny Osmond singing the songs, it makes them even better, an ah....... album.

Wish I could give this more than 5 stars!!!
2008-07-30First off, I am prejudice when it comes to Donny because I have been a fan of his for more than 30 years. However, his voice on this cd is so smooth and mature and he brought so much feeling to his versions of these classic 70's "love" songs. I especially like "Sometimes When We Touch", "Mandy" and "When I Need You". Donny has been able to take some very classic songs and really make them his own. I actually don't like the original versions of some of these songs anymore because I like the way that he has redone them. Even though, he has really stayed true to most of the original music, I just like the spin that his voice put on some of the songs. I don't think anyone would be disappointed in this cd, especially if you like these songs of the 70's. Donny is a true artist and his voice (and his looks) better and better all the time.
