Rock Solid 4 Star Performer2010-06-25
At the time of this writing, the 576 reviewers average for this digital camera is a four. Same with me, I give it 4 stars.

My camera survived a 10 day trip to Hawaii on some humid days under various environments. Silly me, I didn't bring a backup camera. But I didn't need one because my Canon was "rock solid".

But a brief moment of water in a Florida canoe made my Canon LCD go white. Now it's in Chicago getting fixed for $40. Hope it works out.

I think this camera might have been a 5 star performer but it had a 3 star photographer at best: me. I look forward to getting my Canon back and learning a few new tricks with it.

Now this camera's technology is older. But don't let that stop you from purchasing a used one for $100. If it's in good shape, you have a good camera.
Canon A570IS Digital Camera2010-06-24
Canon PowerShot A570IS 7.1MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom is an excellent camera. I've been using it for a couple of years and I'm very happy with it. I know the camera is dated now but the design is the best if you have large hands. The built in grip makes using this camera easy with a secure grip...
versatile, manual controls, warm colors2010-06-10
Finally dropped this one fatally. Owned it for 2 years and dropped it many times - so its robust! Used it for some yummy macro work - always handy due to small size. I used to lug a big 35mm film camera (still do at times) - and while this does not compare in image quality (sort of like comparing apples and oranges), it has something very distinctive and attractive all the same. Colors are warm, tonal range is not bad, and highlights don't blow out so much the way many of these little point and shoot cameras seem to (losing detail in the bright spots). I can shoot dozens of pix and select the best (get the biggest memory card you can find, or carry a spare). It is wonderful for natural light - flowers, and even people, but, as with digital Point and shoots in general, the shutter lag will cause you to "lose the moment" quite a lot - so you have to be prepared to shoot a lot of pix - esp if you prefer candid. Because you are not holding a giant gleaming lens in peoples faces, through which you must peer like a scientist, but instead glancing casually down at a small screen while you click away silently (yes you can turn off that fake shutter noise) - candid shots can be really great.

But its digital, so sort of like a painting - rich colors, but don't expect the razor sharpness of a high end lens. That said the macro is very pleasing on this, and the detail remarkable, and the ease of use invites picture taking, so - you will end up well pleased I expect. The one down side to Canon in general is the manner in which they pack 20 pounds of features into a 10 pound package - the controls are small and fiddly - and will take some time and practice to figure out how to find your manual set options. Read the manual if you want to miss nothing - I rarely did and wished I had as some features did not become apparent until after months of use.

Only thing I might wish for would be a rechargeable battery, a less slippery housing to prevent dropping, an internal system so it knows the date and time without being reset with every battery change, and a grippier design - almost too small. A faster lens/more glass - lets in more light - but this is minor, the lens is pretty great actually. I probably need to treat it with more care but definitely got my moneys worth from this little camera.
Nice Camera but eats batteries!2010-03-24
I bought this camera two years ago but have never really used it because of the battery life. I can only take 10 pics before the low battery signal comes on. Really?? What a waste of money! I would stay far away from this camera as it will cause you much frustration and aggravation.
Great P&S for the money2010-03-19
For a mid-priced point & shoot, this is an excellent camera. I am very pleased with pictures I've taken with it. It's easy to use in automatic mode but still has plenty of manual settings when that's what you need.
