Customer Reviews

I'm through with HP
2009-01-07I purchased my DV9500 in Aug 2007. We really loved it while it was in warranty because it ran great. 3 months out of warranty, the motherboard died. I sent it back to HP for repair and tried to get some sort of discount or satisfaction from HP since it was only 3 months out of warranty. There response was basicly 'tough luck', but no help. I paid over $1300 for this new from HP and I expected a lot more from it than just 1 yr of operating. HP's attitude has ruined their reputation with me. So when this one breaks down again I will go with any other brand but certainly not another HP.

Nice machine but not enough RAM for Vista
2008-08-16I bought this machine in August 2007 for my business. While I love the screen size, there is definitely not enough RAM to run with Vista -- this has 2Gb, which has proven to be too little. The machine is very slow to start up and locks up when a large file, such as Power Point or video, is opened. I often have to close everything up and restart the machine. I checked with HP, and the laptop will not take additional RAM -- I have a 4Gb jump drive that's using a Windows program to function as "virtual" RAM, but it really doesn't help much.
Also, the 120 Gb hard drive is almost completely filled, mainly due to Vista -- I don't store a lot of stuff on it (no movies, for instance).
HP support has been only moderately helpful.
I have a Dell desktop that originally came with 1Gb of RAM and ran like molasses with Vista -- but then I upgraded to 4Gb and now it screams. This tells me that there's really no hope for this laptop since it's stuck at 2Gb. Whatever you do, if you plan to use Vista, get 4Gb RAM on the machine and a gi-hugic hard drive. Therefore, don't buy this particular HP. :-)
And yes, it is very heavy when traveling...

Tech Support makes this a computer to avoid!
2008-03-02When I first brought this computer home I was thrilled. It had a dazzling screen display, fast and a delight to use. But after 4 months it stopped performing so well. I didn't buy it to play games but after trying out some of the trial games I got hooked. But now the games and videos do not work as well as they did at first. Performance is choppy at best and tech support is absolutely the worst I have ever experienced! I passed up buying a Toshiba because the price on the HP was attractive and in the past tech support had been stellar. No more, I've tried phone support and was frustrated that I couldn't understand the tech because of her accent. She was clearly "researching" was we went along. Nothing helped. Next I tried email support. That too was a fiasco. They are now ignoring my emails. If I could do over I would buy the Toshiba. If you value your sanity skip this computer.

HP Pavilion dv9580us Notebook PC
2007-10-07A good computer once it is started but it takes a lot in being ready from turned off. From time to time the webcam does not work and it is necessary a reebot.

2007-09-29This product is horrible. Their tech support is disgraceful. when i first got this product i had it for less then 2 weeks before the wireless card died. then 3 weeks later i got it back. less then a week after that the computer crashed. I had to start from scratch again. then the internal wireless card died again. i would never tell someone to get it it is horrible.

Finding the Right Digital Camera
By Dave Etchells
Finding the Right Digital Camera
The overall goal of the Imaging Resource website (www.imaging-resource.com) is to help people chose and use digital imaging technology as effectively as possible. As simple as they are to use, choosing the right digital camera involves a number of decisions. Key issues are computing platform, image quality, onboard image capacity, exposure versatility, feature set, and included software. In this article, we'll lead you step-by-step through some of the issues to consider in making a purchase decision, and at the same time, suggest some things to look for in the test images we've collected on our website.
We're interested in your feedback and experience! We invite you to elaborate on this article by leaving comments via the database link at the bottom of the page. You can also give feedback in our "Forum" discussion-group section.

Professional video camera
A Professional video camera (often called a Television camera even though the use has spread) is a high-end device for recording electronic moving images (as opposed to a movie camera, that records the images on film). Originally developed for use in television studios, they are now commonly used for corporate and educational videos, music videos, direct-to-video movies, etc.
There are two types of professional video cameras: High end portable, recording cameras (essentially, high-end camcorders) used for ENG and EFP image acquisition, and studio cameras which lack the recording capability of a camcorder, and are often fixed on studio pedestals. Portable professional cameras are generally much larger than consumer cameras and are designed to be carried on the shoulder.
Technology
It is common for professional cameras to split the incoming light into the three primary colors that humans are able to see, feeding each color into a separate pickup tube (in older cameras) or charge ...
