nikon d300
2008-06-14This is a great camera. I had a 6006 before buying this and the abilities of the camera have impressed me immensly. I am glad I spent the money. My only dilema was whether to buy the d300 or the d3. I'm glad I started with the d300. Not only is it more affordable but it offers many of the same features as the d3 so when it's time to buy the d3 it will be a smaller learning curve. I am a huge nikon fan so this was a natural choice.

D300 18mm-200mm Learning curve vs manual
2008-05-27I am quit pleased with the entire deal and product with one exception. I would rate my photography level as semi pro with decades of experience. Both with 35mm and digital formats. The D300 is a wonderful piece of equipment. My only caveat is the manual. We are looking at 421 pages of small print that is the poorest excuse for a manual I have ever seen. Nikon should be ashamed to put their name on this. If you have experience with higher end digital cameras and once you get a feel for how items are arranged on the D300 you will be able to figure out some procedures on your own but there are many that are NOT user friendly and you will need some direction. This is where you will realize how inadequate the manual is. It is obvious the manual was written by techies that know their subject but don't have a clue how to teach/explain. They have their own unique vocabulary that means little to those of us not working for Nikon. The solution is call the Tech Support line. Locating the phone number was an adventure in itself (1-800-645-6689, 1, 1, 1). The wait time can be a few seconds to more than an hour. I found the tech support to be very helpful. They didn't seem to have what I needed right off the top of their head but were able to find it after some time. I didn't feel rushed and they were very pleasant to deal with. A smart person is not the one that think they know all the answers. It's the one who knows where to find them.
You will not be disappointed with the product. The D300 should make you smile.

D300 Outfit
2008-05-15I'm very happy I purchased the D300 Outfit. Everything was quality all at a value. Not sure I really need the battery pack, but it's nice to have. I put my extra money on the 50mm 1.8 lens and the 600 Nikon flash. Good nikon values and quality items.

Exceptional camera at an excellant price
2008-05-14Best camera for the best price. After much research locally and via the internet, found that most internet offers were a scam with less than quality item, foreign made, offering only didscounted price for a inferior chinese made with plastic parts etc. So was a bit skeptical before receiving my purchase but more than satisfied and happy with all the items in the package. The D300 is by far the best camera on the market, ease of use, superior pictures extremely well made, lens and all items also made by Nikon. Will definitely by from again. Word of caution, beware of other retailers that offer a great deal for this camera, if it is too good to be true it truly is not.

Digital cameras are good for the environment
As we consider the digital camera revolution that has taken place over the last decade, most people think about it in terms of enhanced benefits for consumers. We can take a lot more pictures at much lower cost with digital cameras versus film cameras. We can also more easily manipulate and share those photos since they're all in the digital realm.
But one thing many people don't think about actually deserves mention as potentially the most profound effect of the digital camera revolution: how digital cameras greatly reduce the destructive impact on the environment compared to film cameras.
At first, you might think, "How can that be? My film camera didn't harm the environment!" Even though it wasn't your camera that harmed the environment, your film processing did indeed harm it. Any time you take your pictures to a photo processing center, that film is run through batches of chemicals. These chemicals are environmental hazards, and once they are used to process film, those chem ...
