One of the Best Picture but also One of the Worst Craftsmanship
2009-07-04This camera took one of the best pics which is also one of the best bang for the buck BUT the craftsmanship is next to nothing. bought it just 2 days and have to return it cuz it some function doesn't work, next, the inspector at returning center got the machine not working in front of his face. I must admit this cam take really clear/crisp pics. I had done my research for 4 months before buying this thing so I KNOW WHAT I"M DOING, that's because I like the AA battery functionality it has, but later proved me wrong since it cost 2 batteries for every 200 pics you take. I wouldn't recommend anyone this camera. LOok for lithium or any other longer-life batteries.

Good Camera for the price
2009-06-24This is my 3rd Canon PowerShot camera. I used to have the A720 before this one. The A590 IS takes nice pictures, however the battery life is too short and when using the flash light, you have to wait few seconds before you can take another picture. It seems to be an issue for all powershot cameras. When using the video, my previous camera used to display the remaining time left. On this one, there is no way to tell if this is 2mns or 10 mns movie. The speaker is also in a wrong spot, where you grab the camera. Most of the time, you put your finger on it.
Other than that it's a good camera.

Terrible in the rain!
2009-06-23I will make this simple and quick.
I love this camera for its photographic qualities, great videos with the extra memory, etc.
But take this thing out in the rain and take photos, and it will be ruined! It was not raining heavy, but condensation became apparent inside of the LCD screen, thusly no more working camera became a fact in my case.
I have just ordered the Canon Power Shot D10 Waterproof camera.

The reviews were right
2009-06-21I bought this Dec. 08, after reading through the Amazon reviews. This was taken on a 2 week cruise and took really nice pictures and videos. The price is right also.

Easy to use
2009-06-18This is a super easy to use point-and-shoot camera. I love Canon products. My first digital was the Canon A400 with the IP3000 printer. I was amazed at the quality of the printed pictures. Unfortunately, my husband lost my A400 on a hunting trip. Surprisingly, the A590 pictures don't seem quite as vibrant. Overall, the pictures are great, especially compared to the Kodak cameras in the same price range. I definitely appreciate the zoom on the A590 compared to my old A400. I highly recommend this camera for beginners. It's pretty much fool-proof, and I'm very happy with it.

Digital cameras are good for the environment
As we consider the digital camera revolution that has taken place over the last decade, most people think about it in terms of enhanced benefits for consumers. We can take a lot more pictures at much lower cost with digital cameras versus film cameras. We can also more easily manipulate and share those photos since they're all in the digital realm.
But one thing many people don't think about actually deserves mention as potentially the most profound effect of the digital camera revolution: how digital cameras greatly reduce the destructive impact on the environment compared to film cameras.
At first, you might think, "How can that be? My film camera didn't harm the environment!" Even though it wasn't your camera that harmed the environment, your film processing did indeed harm it. Any time you take your pictures to a photo processing center, that film is run through batches of chemicals. These chemicals are environmental hazards, and once they are used to process film, those chem ...
