1979 Awesome year for music
2008-08-141979 was a great year for music and this wonderful album by Mr. Fogelberg was the best that year had to offer. This is the one that skyrocketed Dan into the stratosphere of pop music. Every song on here is a masterpiece.
Get it today. If you've never heard it, you will love it. Every album Dan put out from 1972 thru 1982 were masterful works of art. If you only know him through his radio hits then you barely know him at all. Do yourself a favor and get this and all his others ones from the 70's. Heck, they're only 4.99!! Peace out.

"Dan Fan Forever"
2008-07-07I bought the Phoenix "album" for myself for by 19th birthday in 1979. It remains for me one of Dan's best and still sounds current after all these years. After Dan passed away, I have revisited his music and "Phoenix" has remained in my cd player to this day. Great underratted quitar work by Dan and not a bad song on the CD. Great from start to finish.

Music
2008-07-01This is just ONE of my favorites by Dan. I have this on vinyl and of course have nothing to play it on now. Naturally, I had to have the CD

One of his best
2008-03-22This is one his best, after Souvenirs and Captured Angel.. Innocent Age, etc. But some of the best tracks on this album are those that didn't make the Top 40 - Gypsy Wind, Beggar's Game, Last to Know and Along The Road. All fantastic lyrics and orchestrations. One of the most underrated songwriters of our time.

Lyrics that linger a lifetime
2008-01-14I was 18 when I first heard this album (in 1982), and one song in particular has stayed with me. No, not one of Fogelberg's standards, but a B side, "The Last To Know."
"Living in a house of cards,
Praying the wind doesn't blow too hard
Giving in to differences,
Striving to keep up appearances.
Making believe that threads can be saviors
Aching to leave but then being afraid of letting go
To threads that held you so ...
Why is love always the last to know?"
Whenever I've had rough times (regardless of their provenance), I recall the line about living in a house of cards, and I cross my fingers that the wind doesn't blow too hard.
When Folgelberg died I heard people mention a few favorite songs, but for me, I felt a pain in my middle because the man who had written those words that affected me so deeply was gone.
God bless Dan, and Godspeed.
