Terrible support, draconian activation requirements, works poorly2010-05-05
Pay a few extra bucks for Adobe. This product, its support and its activation requirements are poor. Sadly, its a Nuance product and all of them (PaperPort, Converter, Dragon) have all gone severely downhill since Nuance took over.

Although this software does work most of the time, it is slow and cumbersome, has created doubled text on conversion to searchable pdf format, and the product activation process does not work, leading to loss of use. If you need pdf conversion in a business setting, buy something else because this product is not reliable. If you are willing to struggle through software glitches and are willing to take the risk that activation will fail resulting in loss of use and wasted money, then buy it.

No complaints...other than the fact that you can't open up multiple instances of this version...version 6 has corrected this. Other than that you will have no complaints. I have used Adobe Professional which costs 4-5x the cost of this product. I actually like this product better.
Crummy Product and NO Support2009-10-27
After installing/unistalling several times, I give up. It keeps giving the same fatal error on app start up associated with file "pdfcore8.dll". Says the install was good and everything activated ok, but the software won't start. And Nuance wants a credit card number to provide technical support. I'm never buying another product from the company.
Nuance Lost Me On This One2009-08-31
I consider myself to be a power user. Some of my friends may consider me a gadget guy or geek. For example, I upgrade my laptop about every 18 months. This is because I do everything on my laptop and at the first hint of problems, I upgrade. (I would rather deal with that hassle than retrieving info from a dead machine.)

I own various versions of Adobe Acrobat and bought PDF Converter because of the added features. The price sounded nice, too, as Adobe is very proud of their products.

The problem is that the software was unstable and in my attempts to install and reinstall over a few weeks, Nuance decided that I must be attempting to pirate their software. So when the software reached the maximum number of installations allowed, they would not give me a key to load the software again.

All I wanted was one install that worked. And I wish that I only had to install the software one time to make that happen.

I am not too fond of paying Adobe's prices, but it is a bargain compared to buying software that will not work and the company will not support.

Nuance, I still like Paper Port. And if you would only PLEASE quit telling me I have an "Important Update" only to attempt to sell me the latest upgrade, I would even recommend Paper Port to others. I suspect I am not the only consumer who cannot stand the "Urgent Warnings" that are nothing more than sales solicitations.
