philosophy - purity made simple - one-step facial cleanser
Product Description:
philosophy: purity is natural. we come into this world with all the right instincts. we are innocent, and therefore perceive things as they should be, rather than how they are. our conscience is clear, our hands clean, and the world at large is truly beautiful. it is at this time we feel most blessed. to begin feeling young again, we must begin with the most basic step of all, the daily ritual of cleansing.
purity made simple is a liquid crystal cleansing emulsion that removes makeup, dirt, oil and debris in one step. purity made simple was created because it was our feeling that most cleansers were not getting the skin clean enough. furthermore, we do not believe you need a makeup remover and a toner to complete the cleansing process. purity made simple was formulated to emulsify and dissolve dirt, imbedded debris, and makeup rather than creating a lot of foam without a lot of clean.

Great stuff!
2008-11-06I love this stuff. My skin is a warzone: redness, flakiness, very oily at times, dry at others, pores you could park an SUV in, and sensitive. Eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis . . . you name it, I've had. But this stuff is wonderful. It's got a light woodsy, yet almost minty smell, does not dry my face out and leaves my skin super soft. It removes makeup well, even *most* mascaras (some mascaras I use do need a "headstart" with eye makeup remover, but this cleanser takes care of the rest). I get the small bottle [6 oz? 8 oz?] and it lasts a very long time, since a little goes a long way.
The only thing I would ammend about this product is that I wish it was paraben-free since there's all this buzz about parabens being "sooooo" bad for you. But until they come out with a version that doesn't contain these perservatives, there are bigger things in life to work about. I still give this product two big thumbs up.
Another good one to try is Boscia cleansing gel, which IS paraben-free and works awesome, but it's almost twice the price, ounce for ounce.

this product made me a philosophy girl
2008-10-31this is one of my all-time favorite products...so much so that i've actually shared mine with friends. seriously!
it's like face cream, cleanser and make-up remover packed in a silky lotion. it cleans everything in one step without being harsh, and leaves even dry/sensitive skin feeling soft, but not greasy.
get the largest size you can afford -- once you try it (a) you won't ever want to run out and (b) i bet you'll want to share a good thing, too.

tried and true
2008-09-21Take it from a licensed esthetician: Philosophy is a high quality product in a moderate price point. What could be more worth the money than skin care products that give you consistently healthy results?!

Great
2008-09-09This product is exactly as it says. You don't need very much and it takes all makeup off and cleanses the skin in one go. Actually it is better than most specific eye remover creams and lotionsm and mascara just washes away without an need to tug at the gentle eye area. I recommend it for anyone who doesn't want to spend a lot of time in the bathrom using different products to cleanse their skin and remove their makeup.

One of my favorite cleansers.
2008-08-24This cleanser is very soft and silky. It leaves your face feeling clean but not at all dry or irritated. It's not foamy but more lotion-like. Very gentle. I'd rate it a 5 star if it had a pump dispenser rather than the flip top.

Susan Lucci has played Erica Kane on the daytime drama All My Children for more than 20 years -- which you would never know from her flawless, radiant skin and youthful, elegant style. (Even when she's playing tragedy, she's sexy.) You can achieve her sultry and luminous makeup look by following the advice of makeup artist Deborah Grayson. (See Deborah's list of recommended products to get the look.)
STEP 1 Start with the eyes, so if your eye makeup falls onto your cheek, it's not a disaster! Using a sharpened eye pencil in black, line both eyes entirely, including inside the upper and lower lids. Carry the lines out past the corner of your eye, just the slightest touch, in a little cat's eye point.
STEP 2 Apply an ivory-colored shadow to your lids up to the crease using a brush or sponge applicator. Using a flat, round eyeshadow brush, apply a gray-black, smoky shadow to the crease only.
STEP 3 Curl lashes. Apply two coats of black mascara to upper and lower lashes.

Keeping African-American Hair in Shape
Wendy Fitzwilliam, winner of Miss Universe 1998 counters the damaging effects of chemical processing by treating her tresses right. Here, she shares her tips for maintaining her mane in an excerpt from Universal Beauty: The Miss Universe Guide to Beauty (Rutledge Hill Press).
Like many Trinidadians, Wendy Fitzwilliam has some African ancestry, which means her tresses demand tender loving care. "It's a running joke that black women obsess about their hair," says Wendy. "We do to some extent, but that's because it's just not as versatile in its natural state as Caucasian or Asian hair." Because Wendy typically likes to go flowing and straight, she has her hair chemically straightened or relaxed once every eight weeks by the same seasoned professional she's been seeing for years. "My hair is very fine, so to keep it from drying out, I'll only trust stylists who are great at applying chemicals to black hair," she says. Here are four more ways Wendy keeps her mane in shape.
