Makes DVDs off my Flip videos
2010-04-26I was looking for software to burn my videos taken with my Flip video recorder to DVDs playable on a regular DVD player. This software has worked fine for me. One thing - it does not recognize the Flip videos format, you have to convert the videos first before burning to a DVD. I just downloaded Any Video Convertor for free and the converted videos worked fine. The software was easy to understand, has many different title menu backgrounds to choose from. For someone who knows little about computers and burning DVDs, this software has worked great. Had to change the ratio from 4:3 to 16:9 to make it play full screen on my tv. Don't know if it matters, but my computer is Windows Vista, no problem installing, took about 45 minutes, then takes between 30-90 minutes to burn a DVD. Great product!

Out of Date
2010-02-25This software is out of date. The current version, as of February 2010, is Corel VideoStudio Pro X3.

Good luck making chapter titles in the main menu
2010-01-18I have been using this software on and off for a couple of years. Things that I like about it are: It's easy to apply dolby 5.1 audio to your video. Just click the 5.1 button and you're there. It's easy to capture or import video from camera or dvd. It's easy to enhance said videos although you might need to read the manual occasionally to follow the steps. The end result is very nice if you are working with decent quality source video. What I hate: If there is a way to create chapter titles in the main menu so that you can access them in the resulting dvd I haven't found it yet. The manual doesn't cover it, it only explains how to do a single title, the title of the video. I have been trying to make dvds of an old series called werewolf from fox that aired back in the '80s. No problem dragging them into the timeline and burning them to disc with 5.1 surround. But even after searching the web and watching the tutorials nothing shows how to make chapter titles in the menu so that you can access individual episodes without just fast forwarding through the whole thing. It should not be that difficult to do since this is an integral part of making any video. Using nero 7 I created chapter menus and titles in under ten minutes. It is very user friendly. I have ordered Movieplus x3 since the reviews of it claim it is much easier to use. Because honestly, to me, if I can't create chapter titles that I can access on the main menu then it's pretty much useless software.

Buggy
2009-12-18I was able to do what I needed to with this program, but it sure didn't make things easy. The sound files in imported video would frequently be misaligned with the picture. You can correct it by splitting the audio and manually adjusting it, but its not exactly fast. I've had DVD menues frequently fail to save correctly, meaning I had to go back and reset everything. And its fairly prone to crashing to desktop, and the recovery file is usually helplessly corrupted. On the whole, I wouldn't recommend this product or this company's software.

Corel Ulead Videostudio 11.5
2009-10-29I got this program to extract Movies and TV shows from DVD disc's produced with a DVR and it works very well for this, but the user's manual doesn't do a very good job of explaining how. If you want to do this, you first have to copy the *.VOB file(s) from the DVD disc and rename it with a *.MPG file type extension. After you do this you can edit the commercials out etc. The Movie Maker software works very well for making DVD's from the clips you produce. This software just takes some trial and error to get used to, I think it does a good job for the price.
