The King Kong of Flashes2009-06-24
I've had my SB900 for several weeks now. I experimented a lot the first week or so with it and was quite impressed, especially when used off camera.

It is very well designed and easy to use. It also comes with a full set of tupperware and plastic, gels, gel holder and diffuser. These items are really worth next to nothing to make but they can be expensive by the time you buy them separately.

The downside really with this flash is it's size. Also, as impressed as I am with it's performance, at the end of the day the SB600 is probably a better choice for people like me who aren't professionals. It is half the price, 120 grams or so lighter and much more compact.

Mind you none of these flash guns are exactly compact but the SB900 is really the King Kong of flashes and really it ponders the question of what the limits should be on size and weight and price for a camera strobe. I guess if you have a monster pro camera like a Nikon D3 which you need a crane to lift as it is, maybe it is OK but I would give this flash the thumbs down unless you are a press or wedding photographer.

I personally think that Nikon should be working on a nice general purpose flash redesigned with usability in mind, off camera remote capability and full head swivel but try to make it as small and inexpensive as possible. Yes a redesigned and shrunk SB-600!
Excelent lighting system2009-06-22
This flash work as described by the manufacturer. The Nikon Lighting system (CLS) works flawless every time. I usually build a studio on the go and this flash let me do all the work.
Flash is good, service was super2009-05-28
The SB-900 flash is a definite improvement over the SB-800. Beach Camera service was fast and efficient - and reasonable priced too.
Overheats silly fast2009-05-17
It's a great flash with great features. Too bad it overheats in less than 10 pictures when shooting in dimly lit areas. Outdoors, in TTL BL mode where the flash is providing just a little fill light, it doesn't seem to overheat.

This is a SERIOUS problem, and the eeprom update Nikon provided to fix the problem update won't work with my camera (D80), so I'm SOL.

Bad......very bad.
Nikon SB-9002009-05-11
Recieved my sb-900, very quick. I am new to photography and thought a flash was only for when conditions were dark, WRONG! This flash has made great pictures even more fantastic. I have not seen any of the thremal alarms that i read about before purchasing this flash but i can definitely see that it could because this flash is powerful. It works very well even when i am far enough away that i dont think i have a chance of making a good photograph. I highly recommend this flash.

A Quick Look At the Professional Digital Camcorder
Introduction Professional digital camcorders are better than your analog camcorder, or even your digital video camera. The advancements that have been made in the camcorder industry are amazing. Just like everything else they keep getting more and more advanced, and shrinking in size. Even though we have seen much advancement, the price keeps getting more and more affordable. Professionals are not the only ones who can now enjoy the wonderful benefits of a professional -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A professional digital camcorder allows creativity and quality to meet, and the cost is far lower than it was only a few years ago. Even in the late 1990's most professionals were using Betamax professional quality analog recorders, though the professional digital camcorder was starting to come into its own back then. In 1997 at a press conference in Roswell, New Mexico during the 50th anniversary of the historic alleged UFO crash ...
Why You Should Use A Mini DV Camcorder
Introduction The mini DV camcorder has many advantages to offer its users. If you enjoy your digital video camera you will also enjoy this. The mini DV camcorder is easier to take with you than the regular sized cameras such as the hi definition camcorder, or the hi-Res camcorder. The size of this camcorder is one of its big advantages. The features this camcorder can offer are also great. Some cameras offer more features than others, so make sure that the camera has the features you want. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Generally when design, performance and technological improvements are made on electronic products there is a reduction in size as well to make them more compact. For example the early day radios were built in large cabinets and required radio vacuum tubes. Eventually, transistor radios were constructed and were more portable. Today, a radio can be as small as a wristwatch. Camcorders have also evolved in tec ...
