User interface unreadable
2009-07-01I've been using PSE for 5 years and use the product daily. I have found no other product that is as good at managing photos. I recently bought the version 7 upgrade, have been using version 5. I find the new user interface to be completely unreadable. They have selected a gray background and by moving a slider you can vary it from white on gray to black on gray. I may have an unusual computer setup however, I have a Sony SXRD 60" TV as my monitor. This makes a great platform for showing photos and videos, and the rest of the time is in use as a TV. I haven't found other applications that were difficult to read that could not be adjusted. So your mileage may vary. For me, I never even got to open a photo. If I can't read the screen, all the great features are pretty irrelevant. I submitted a technical support incident to Adobe, but after 3 days I've received no response. On the Adobe user forums there are comments that others find the interface poor and that there is no way to change it.
So if you can get past the user interface, you will probably like the product. However, be warned that on some installations it may not be readable and there is no way to fix it.

Adobe Photoshop Elements 7
2009-06-27I have had moderate experience with digital photography but, this is so far over my head that I just do not use it. The very small booklet that comes with the program is for the most part, useless. Either more information should be expressed before ordering as to the experience of the user, or more information along with photos, should be included especially for the purchasing price.

Adobe Photoshop 7
2009-06-24This transaction was very prompt and efficient. The product, itself, is useful although extremely detailed and complex to learn. So far, I have been very pleased with my purchase.

Non-techie review - very useful product, if you can spare the time
2009-06-23I've enjoyed tinkering with Adobe Photoshop Elements 7, although I don't have much spare time and it's taken me awhile to get around to learning even a fraction of what Elements 7 has to offer.
This is the first photoshoping software I've ever owned, and I'm amazed by the things it can do! Tin-type effects, black and white photos from color, accenting colors (e.g., bluer skies) - I know this is "old hat" to most people, but to me this is cutting edge. As someone who loves taking photos but who does not enjoy playing with software, I believe this software comes with more options than I will ever be able to use. Regardless, I am enjoying using Adobe Photoshop Elements 7!

Such a sad disappointment
2009-06-21I have been a Photoshop Elements user for 5 years. The first version I used was Photoshop Elements 3, which was a dream. The software did everything I wanted and was great. When we upgraded our computer, it came with Windows Vista, which was not compatible with Photoshop Elements 3. We purchased Photoshop Elements 6 and found that it was buggy. Most importantly, it did not print 4x6 photos correctly after the photo has been edited.
I read that Photoshop Elements 7 was due out in a few months and that it would fix most of the bugs in Photoshop Elements 6. I purchased the software with high hopes. I found this package to be buggy, too. [...], the new online feature of this software, did not work correctly. It would upload only a portion of my photo albums and not some other photos. There was no rhyme or reason to it. I looked in all the manuals and online and could not get any help. Regardless, the software did the basics of what I needed - photo editing, organizing and printing.
That all changed, however, when Adobe sent out their latest automatic update last week. Now the bug that prevented me from printing 4x6 photos in version 6 is back. I can no longer print 4x6 photos from my computer. After using so many versions of this software, I have now decided to abandon it. It really pains me to do this as I have spent years and countless hours working on this. I have over 3,000 photos, so I do not make this decision lightly.
This software is a house of cards. If you do buy this software and it does what you want it to do out of the box, do not allow any automatic updates from Adobe. Otherwise you could find that you are one update away from ruining the functionality of your program.
The work around I found to this printing problem is to go to the Windows Photo Editor and use that program to print the photo I want.
