The large, 2.5-inch 230,000 pixel LCD monitor makes it a pleasure to review images and scroll through menus. The Live View feature allows you to frame shots using the LCD screen rather than the viewfinder. Canon's Integrated Self Cleaning System removes dust automatically from the sensor using ultrasonic vibration.

The Transcend 8GB SDHC Memory Card is large enough to hold hundreds and hundreds — a whole vacation's worth — of pictures.

The Cameta Incognito Deluxe Gadget Bag is constructed of durable Pro-Nylon™. It will discreetly hold and protect your Digital SLR camera with zoom lens attached, plus 3 extra lenses, flash, and accessories.

Great Package With An Excellent Camera2009-05-29
Whether you're a professional looking for a good secondary camera that's still compatible with your EF lenses, an experienced point-and-shooter that wants to enter the world of Digital SLRs, or are completely new to the game, this is an excellent package deal. The Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS (a.k.a. the EOS 1000D in Europe and Asia) is Canon's superb entry/mid-level DSLR, designed to replace the XTi. Unlike the very basic XTi, however, the XS includes a number of features found only on higher end Canon cameras, such as Live View (gimmicky but useful at times) and the DIGIC III image processing board.

The 8GB card that comes with the package allows you take full advantage of the RAW format, if you plan on doing heavy image editing and need super-high quality and high-res originals. The spare battery is also always a plus, and the card reader comes in handy too.

The only draw back is the gadget back. While useful, and a good thing to include, it isn't of the highest quality. The first time I buckled one of the two main front closures, the buckle broke. It still stays securely shut, with two small side buckles and one left up front, but it's not as tight as it was before.

Wait around and it might come up on sale again. I was able to pick it up for $479 ($499 after S&H) a few months back. Not sure if it's worth the price now, but if you can find it for anything less than $500, buy it immediately!

Great Camera... poor quality bag2009-02-13
All of the items were great except the camera bag. the little clips holding it closed popped off like they had been petrified or something.
Canon Digital Rebel XS2009-02-08
Still learning how to use the camera, but so far I love it. Takes good pictures. Only disappointment is the lenses from our old Canon 35mm do not fit, so I'll need to purchase new lenses.
good combo and great camera for beginners!!2009-01-30
I recently bought this, i really liked the combo because you get a spare battery and a 8g memory card, the whole thing arrived on time but the bag i received is broken and the bag is also too big to only carry the camera and the extra battery!! that i didnt like!
The camera is great! really easy to use even before you read the instructions, i loooooove canon D-slr and looking forward to keep learning how to use the camera more.

Camera basics: shutter-speed, aperture and ISO
In this article, I’ll introduce you to the basic elements that you can use to control exposure in your shooting. If you have a digital SLR, there will be a way to set all of these controls on your camera, but since they differ between manufacturers and models, you’ll need to refer to your camera’s manual to find out exactly how to change them. All cameras, whether an ancient film camera, or a more modern digital, work in pretty much the same way. Photographs are taken by letting light fall onto a light-sensitive medium, which records the image. Traditionally, this has been film, but more recently, it tends to be a digital sensor. The more light that falls onto the film or sensor, the lighter the image. Put simply, a camera consists of a light-tight box that stores a light-sensitive device (either a film or a digital sensor), a lens that magnifies and focuses the image onto that light-sensitive device through a hole in the box (called the aperture) , and a shutter that opens ...
Driving with a cell phone is a lot less dangerous than driving on prescription drugs
There's a lot of debate today about the safety of using cell phones while driving. Statistics show that those who use cell phones while driving cause a much greater percentage of accidents than those who avoid using their cell phones. And the studies have shown that it's not just the physical coordination required to punch numbers into the cell phone while you're trying to work the vehicle that causes accidents; it's actually the lack of attention resulting from driving and talking on the cell phone at the same time. It seems that when you're distracted, you're more likely to cause accidents. In terms of public safety, it's probably correct to say that banning cell phones would reduce the number of traffic accidents. But I think, more accurately, it depends on the person. Some people are operating on, shall we say, lower power CPUs in their heads to begin with. They might be zoned out on prescription drugs, and when you add a cell phone to the equation, they do become a danger to the ...
