Former Mavericks leader Raul Malo presents his first album of original material in seven years. Malo wrote Lucky One over a two-year period at his Nashville home and was so happy with the results that several of his home demos appear as final versions on the CD. For the balance of the album, he once again enlisted Steve Berlin, best known for his work with Los Lobos and who worked on Malo's 2001 Today album, as co-producer. Drawing on his deep love of country, rock, jazz and Latin music, Malo displays not only his eclectic taste, but a crystal clear voice unmatched by any other singer today.

Raul Malo continues to impress me with his beautiful voice. He is such a great talent and I hope he will continue to release one great album after another...they are all fabulous.

What has he done and why did he do it??? I have all of his solo cds and love them all and play them often..this one is on the do not play shelf. There is not one song that I liked and can even remember when I think about the cd. The whole thing was a waste as far as I can see. He has a wonderful voice that is exciting and relaxing at the same time this cd was just not up to his stardard. I think it was a song by him for him and I got to pay for it. I will try more in the future but I won't be so trusting.Lucky One

I waited a while before reviewing this CD only because I just kept listening to it any chance I got. And I will keep listening to this one over again.
I cannot tell you how impressed I am with Raul Malo. He has a wonderful, rich voice that he fits into any style of music. Whether he's with a band (The Mavericks, Los Super Seven) or solo, Raul makes it work.
This CD is original work, and it is great. Every song on here is worth listening to numbers of times. But my favorite one is the title track 'Lucky One'. What a great song, what a great voice! It keeps playing over and over in my head.
For anyone just beginning to explore Raul Malo, this is a must. But don't stop here. All his solo efforts are fantastic. And don't forget to check out his work with The Mavericks and Los Super Seven.
