Vista Good, Linux Good
2009-04-24This scanner is listed on the Canon Support website as being compatible with Windows Vista, as well as having "complete" support under GNU/Linux with the plustek driver on the SANE project website.

Great deal, works like a dream
2009-03-01Found this at a thrift store for $4, plugged it in, and started producing hi-res, crisp scans. I really can't say more except that the lack of power cord is a plus, and SANE is an excellent piece of software. Haven't had success under Windows yet, however.

Best money spent on a scanner!
2006-12-29I bought this scanner several years ago. This scanner can be a little workhorse . . . and sometimes, that's just what you need.
It's lightweight, less than 3 lbs, easy to put in a backpack or purse, easy to hide & store if necessary. This scanner has become hard to find. Try the CanoScan LiDE 25 for the next best scanner if you can't find this one. The newer features will serve you well, like the Toolbox. It lets you scan the document directly into a PDF file! I love that! It works well with Windows 98, 2000, & XP not to mention Mac OS 9 & X. That feature is missing in the 1240U, but I like that little scanner away because I can scan in receipts, paper, materials, all sorts of things and they still look decent when you print it.
If you can find this scanner, buy it, you'll like it. If not, get the CanoScan LiDE 25 you'll like that just as much with the newer features.

No problems
2003-01-29I purchased this scanner after checking several review sites. I use it only for home use (just photgraphs so far). I haven't had any problems with it in the 3 months since I have owned it. I purchased it along with U Lead's Photimpact 8 and have had excellent results.

A great value and excellent quality
2003-01-10I purchased the Canon 1240U scanner, a bit costly than those available in the market. But the quality of the pictures made for all that extra $$$ spent. This one is really sleek and light weight and doesnt need any extra power cables that hang around.
I would strongly recomment this to anyone.
