Problem encountered with this product
2004-01-17Was given this product as gift at Christmas. Was supposed to work on an IMac with a OS of 9.2. Had problems from the original installation. Called Epson (in California) and was advised to download a new driver. It was 10.5meg in size and after downloading and installing, the scanner continued to give me problems. It would scan a 35mm slide but would not enlarge it and would not print anything but a 1"square pic. After several calls to Epson (costing me for the calls) since they do not have an 800# for technical problems. I decided that it was not worth the trouble and returned the product to Amazon. Of course since it was not there problem it will cost me to pay for the return. I feel that the tech. manuals were not well written and seemed to be geared toward those using Windows and not Macintosh.

Excellent Scanner with Mac OS X
2004-01-14I'm delighted with this scanner and find that the software works well. I'm using OS10.3.2 without a hitch. I use the scanner for prints only, so I can't comment about scanning slides or film. The scanned images are sharp with excellent color rendition. The scanner integrates perfectly with iPhoto which is where my digitized images end up. If you're looking for a print scanner to use with Panther, this is a good choice.

Wonderful Scanner
2004-01-12I must say, this is an excellent scanner. It is quick and easy. I upgraded from a scanner that was about 5 years old. What a difference! Paired with my Epson Photo 960 printer, I have my own miniature photo lab! ;)
As far as the software concerns, go to the Epson website, download the newest software/drivers and you will be fine. Most computer hardware these days have such short lead times to market that driver updates are nearly a necessary requirement of the end user for proper and efficient operation.

No software problems here!
2004-01-09Contrary to earlier reviewers, I found the software very easy to use and flexible. It has allowed me to adujust contrast, brightness and a whole slue of other aspects of the print with little effort. I've got thousands of positive slides, the product of 15 years of living abroad from Asia to Africa to S. America, and the the slides are on a variety of type and quality of slide film. I have been able to adjust for all imperfections. For the price, you can't beat it.

OK Scanner, LOUSY software
2003-12-23The product info says it will scan medium format film, but the lousy software will only recognize up to a 4.5x6 cm negative/transparancy. Sice I use 6x7 cm format, this scanner is useless for this purpose. So far, I haven't been able to 'trick' the software into scanning a complete 6x7, nor have I had any luck using Photoshop to do this with this scanner. It would be so much better if Epson would just let the user select the area to be scanned, like HP does.
