Large format Printer
2007-12-17This Epson Stylus Photo R1800 printer prints fast and very good. It was expensive but you can install a "continuous ink system" on it. All togather this cost me less than $500 and now I can print 13 X 19 photos and never have to replace those 8 ink cartridges.

Excellent photo printer
2007-12-12The R1800 is my first real photo printer. I could not be more pleased with the ease of set-up and the quality of prints. I am using Photoshop Elements 5.0 or Adobe Lightroom to manage all of the print settings and color profiles to produce some great prints. I have used the printer color profile settings to print some test samples and it does a very good job. I prefer to use the downloaded paper profiles from Epson for the best quality prints. Just remember to turn off the printer as the color manager.
Negative: The output tray sometimes hangs up and will not extend as described. I have to reach under the printer to release it.
The R1800 is a great value for those not needing to print larger then 13" prints.

Epson R 1800
2007-12-11This is an excellent product. The pictures that I have produced rival museum quality. Combine this with Photoshop Elements and you have an unbeatable ability to produce quality prints. Add to all that the ability to make large prints.

Great printer for larger format printing
2007-11-21Pro's:
1. Absolutely breathtaking quality. I have printed on Ilford high quality glossy photo paper as well as Epson Velvet Fine Art and High Gloss photo papers. All were 13 X 19. All images were absolutely fabulous with a remarkable dynamic range.
2. Easy setup and install.
3. Straight forward installation of printer/paper profiles.
Con's:
1. A bit tricky at times with large paper feed from the back.
2. It's not pigment ink (but only higher-end printers are)
3. A bit expensive to replace the ink, but given the lower price than similar Canon or HP printers of this quality, it would take a lot of prints to make up any cost difference.
The bottom line is that I would absolutely buy this printer again because of the quality. The "Con's" mentioned above do not detract from my enjoyment of this printer.
I had looked at comparable HP and Canon printers. I also must confess that I have owned Espon printers before and never been disappointed. I cannot tell you that it is better than other printers of similar quality. I just can't tell a difference enough to switch from a good thing.
