Flavor, but not an acquired taste
2008-01-19Another great album -- BUT for Lupe fans.
That's honestly the best way to describe this sophomore set.
I own his debut Food & Liquor, and The Cool was given to me as a Christmas gift by one of my homies. Of course, none of my peeps feel him like I do which is kind've my point. He's not the most charismatic emcee and he doesn't do the standard club, radio-friendly crap, so he's not an artist that just grabs you.
Buy this album, as many reviewers have already said, because you're a hip hop purist, you're a fan of intelligent lyrics or you just want to hear something different than what gets overplayed on MTV and BET (lol).
To me, both of Lupe's albums have the same cool, relaxed vibe with creative lyrics that are not hard to listen to. If I have to rate them, his debut has bigger singles (I still love "Hurts Me Soul") though I belive The Cool is more complete song-by-song.
Lupe's got a better flow than Kanye and is just as intensely conscious as Common without coming off half as threatening, as far as ChiTown emcees go.
Lupe Fiasco is on the short list of new artists to come out in hip hop since '05 that I've actually been excited about.
The Cool hasn't left my CD player since I opened it.
Again, recommended for hip hop fans who appreciate what he's about.
My Favorite Tracks
1)"The Coolest"
2)"Gold Watch"
3)"Gotta Eat"
4)"Paris, Tokyo"
5)"Go Go Gadget Flow"
***My Vote 4 Best Track is probably "Hip Hop Saved My Life"

A BIG step down from "Food & Liquor"!
2008-01-16Lupe Fiasco was a promising rapper with a great career ahead of him after the success of "Food & Liquor"(2006). Unfortunately, after listening to "The Cool", Lupe has significantly dropped in quality. From elementary rhymes to synthesizer-heavy pop production, Lupe has fallen off.
The production is TERRIBLE. "The Cool" and "Graduation" both sound like synthesizer pop albums. If you're a pop/southern rap fan you will love this trash.
"Food & Liquor" was a FANTASTIC album!...what happened Lupe?

Better than Graduation
2008-01-16Don't get me wrong, I liked Graduation a lot but The Cool is just so much better. Better production, better lyricism, better message. Standout tracks: Go Go Gadget Flow, The Coolest, Superstar, Hi-Definition, Hip-Hop Saved My Life, Little Weapon. Click yes if you agree.

Masterpiece
2008-01-15Lupe delivers what the rap genre has been hungering for for a long time. With 'The Cool' he's not only brought thoughtful rap back to the mainstream, he's taken it to another level. His lyrics are intelligent, almost to the point of cryptic, and yet highly relateble. Pick this album up.

Hip-Hop Savior!
2008-01-13This album is simply a classic. If you thought "Food & Liquor" was good, then this one is even better. Lupe's lyrical content is on a different level than most rappers today. The production was also great, the beats were very catchy. You should listen to the album a few times to understand what he is talking about. Every track is enjoyable but the ones that stand out are "Little Weapon," "Hip-Hop Saved My Live," "Intruder Alert," and "Go Go Gadget Flow." I havn't stopped listening since I got this album; a must-have for every hip-hop fan!
