Things that your mother, Amazon, and AT&T didn't tell you2008-11-17
I bought the Motorola Moto Z-9 Phone from Amazon and it is one heck of a deal. The phone is a step up from my old V-3. The Moto is well built but a bit larger and heavier than Razr. The screen is large and it is easier to text because the numbers on the keypad larger and easier to see. At 60 plus my eyes are not 20/20 anymore. The music capabilities of the phone when the extra memory is added are awesome. I bought a Sony Bluetooth headset as an accessory. Now the bad stuff. I guess I was aware of it but there is a $40 activation fee. I can live with that. This month I got billed for a second service charge!!! Seems that AT&T wants to make sure they have the last month's rent when you move out. Nowhere can I find that this charge would be levied. A minor inconvenience for an otherwise great phone.
No more flip phones for me2008-10-24
I got this phone a few days ago and I love my Z9. I had a V9 I broke in half and a Razr before that. So far it is an excellent phone and guess what? It talks. There is a feature on the phone where instead of a ringtone, you can select talking phone and it will say "incoming call from (name)". Also, the picture is very clear, the phone has great sound quality, and it takes great pictures. Oh, and there is a light you can turn on with the camera. Overall, I think this is a great phone. Downsides are the keypad takes a little getting use to because there a little knob like buttons and my phone book read Chinese for a little while but I turned that feature off somehow. Also, the internet is like the internet on the Razr and Z9 so you cannot see full sites. All my friends love my new Z9 and I do too.
Honest opinion: Nice phone, but bulky2008-09-09
I thought I would give motorola props on this phone. I was up for my 2 yr contract discount so I thought I would get a phone with a little more than the bare necessities than I am used to. Even with the 2 yr discount it cost me nearly $200 in the store, after the $50 mail-in-rebate that still has never come in. So this is a ridiculous deal on Amazon. To be straight forward I already have a new phone because I threw this one against the wall because of my temper(dont judge me). So i went to with a Razr go-phone (can't afford anything without the discount). I mention that, because it makes me regretful that I broke my Z9. Although these two phones are not exactly comparable the Razr made me realize how fast the software was on the Z9, good button configuration, ridiculously faster internet, lots of storage, lots of options. My only complaint is its weight. I obviously don't lug a purse around so having to put that phone in my pockets was a little bit of a burden. If you are a woman, I can't say there any negatives to this phone. Additionally, if you need the GPS, it doesn't work that good. I think i remember the sales associate telling me it was one of the first phones available for At&T with GPS so that may be why. Also there are drawbacks to having a slide phone if you are anal about scratches on the screen (vs. a flip phone). I got a decent scratch the first day and I am super careful with my property (except when I'm pissed...hahah) I don't really buy camera's for photography, but it took decent pics and I can't really critique the video camera. There is also a light that stays on for the camera (it doesn't flash). Overall, despite the weight and bulkiness it is an above par phone.
very bad little navigator2008-08-28
I have had problems with the GPS Navigator feature on this phone from the minute I walked out of the store. When trying to upload maps or get directions, the navigator will load at a brisk rate until it hits 96%. It then stalls and goes no further. This has happened with a full 3G connection in broad daylight in beautiful south Florida weather.
After repeated phone conversations with AT&T tech (and every other department I was transferred to), the problem was never corrected. I was finally referred back to the store, then to a corporate store, then to a device center to repeatedly be told I had to go somewhere else. During this period of being transferred all over, my 30-day return policy period lapsed (although I reported the problem to AT&T withing the original 30 days). I have spent literally hours on the phone trying to reach a satisfactory conclusion (swap the phone with an identical new one that works). Every known remedy to the problem has been attempted. AT&T has refused to do more than offer me a 'refurbished' Z9. That is unacceptable as I do not feel I should get a 'used' phone as resolution after paying full price for merchandise that is less than 2 months old.
Aside from my quarrel with AT&T over this, I still have a Z9 in my pocket that has a great Navigator GPS feature... that I cannot use due to a factory defect. I guess expecting proper customer service is a lot to ask for in this day.
**** Love it ****2008-08-20
I love this phone, it's classy and easy to use. I love that there is a light for the camera, which can be used as a flashlight if needed. I only with that I bought a screen cover a little sooner. I have had the phone for about a month and the screen is already has many little scratches on it, and it is stored in it's own pocket in my purse.
