Amadeus (Blu-ray Book)

This movie is superbly produced and acted. One is transported back to those days of Patrons of the Arts and fashionable Salons ruled over by the matriarchs of local society. Mozart doesn't come out of history with too much credit and for his sake, it might have been better had this film - and history generally - had skipped over his private life and character. His music, on the other hand, lives on and delights all music lovers to this day. Mozart was certainly a paradox of supreme proportions.

People always gripe about Hollywood executives who smoosh directors' visions, but if this movie is any indication, they sometimes see things much more clearly than the directors.

"Amadeus" has always been one of my favorite movies, but I've never had a copy. Finally I thought, "Why not?" and ordered this. Heck, let's get the director's cut, as that's bound to be better.

No way. The movie is much worse. All those scenes that wound up on the cutting room floor? Watch this and you'll realize why they were left there. Constance's topless visit with Salieri poisons the emotion of the rest of the film, and many of the other scenes that were included slog the pacing and focus. The original film made every point it wanted to make without any of them: why couldn't they just have been added as "deleted scenes"? Or why couldn't we have the option of seeing film "in original theatrical format" or "with deleted scenes interlarded" or something.

Argghghghh. Now somebody's gone and ruined one of my favorite films. I'm going to have to go and buy the original somewhere.

I was reminded of the Amadeus movie that I had watched once when it came out in 1984. I wanted to view it again and could not find it at a rental facility. I didn't know if it would still be available and what it would cost to purchase the DVD version. I located a used DVD at a very good price and ordered through Amazon.com. The DVD was shipped and billed from another source, as promised, with a very fast delivery time, and at the ordered price. I was very satisified with the arrangements and enjoyed watching the movie again.
