Dyson DC07 Origin2008-10-15
Difficult to imagine how inefficient my other vacuum cleaners were until I powered up this "beast"!
The upright and the "wand" (the cylinder-like hose attachment) both removed quite dramatic amounts of dirt, dust, fluff and detritus from what I had imagined was a clean carpet.
I'm sitting staring in disbelief at the amount of stuff in the bagless dirt/rubbish container.
I recommend this machine.
Wait until you have to change the belt!2008-10-06
This is absolutley the worst vacuum cleaner I have ever bought. Very poorly designed from a maintenance point of view. Just try and change the belt (which is very easily snapped by such accidents as sucking up a sock, or carpet thread). Considerable strength is required to stretch the belt over the roller and spindle - not a job for those with delicate fingers. The noise is dangerously high pitched - almost sounding like a jet engine. The high pitched whine penetrates, and I am sure must be over the legal decibel level for household appliances. The wand, for getting to ceiling corners, and difficult places, takes far too long to deploy, and is awkward and too long. The cleaner has a nasty 'plasticky' feel - you feel as though you need to handle it gently in case you break it. Yes it's very powerful - if you need to get rid of animal hairs - great. But it is too powerful for cleaning rugs and small bathroom carpets, and also light weight carpets without sucking up the corners, and snapping the belt.
I definitely cannot recommend it and regret having bought it.
Not built to last2008-09-13
Between myself my partner and my sister and my mother we have had a total of 9 DYSONS that have all given up the ghost. Dyson had a good name once no longer in our family we have all gone over to Henry .You will not see any professional cleaning companys using Dyson.
This can suck for England2008-09-13
I have used a DCO1 Dyson for over 10 years and it has never let me down, I gave it to a friend setting up a flat, and I read the reviews about the Dyson DCO7, and bought one on their recommendation. WOW !!! What a cleaner, it really does lift the carpet off the floor, It is without doubt a superb machine and would suggest anybody with animals and mucky kids, then this is the machine for you. Delivered as usual on time next day as promised. Well done Amazon.
Good for first 3 years2008-07-10
I bought this Dyson in 2001 and paid about £220. It has been fairly reliable during this time but considering that it is only used on average once a week for half an hour does not equate to an awful lot of use.
When I first purchased the machine I was very impressed with its cleaning abilities. The amount of dust that it picks up is staggering, I thought my carpets were clean until I saw what was in the dust container. The hose was also very long which enabled me to get to the top of the stairs. The initial things I didn't like was that its hard to get into corners but to be fair this is a problem for all uprights. It is also fairly heavy which is not a problem for me but would be for the elderly. It is also very noisy. All went well for a couple of years until it started to make a high pitched whining noise which was diagnosed by the helpline as being the brush bar. They sent me a new one under warranty so all was well again. A word of warning - DO NOT use this vacuum to pick up any sort of decorating dust or building dust or rubble. Fine dust gets clogged in the cyclone and the only cure is to buy a new cyclone. Dyson kindly sent me a new cyclone under warranty. We have just had the builders in and the cyclone is again blocked but I will have to pay this time for a new one. Dyson say that I have been using it for the wrong type of dust! The hose split and I had to buy a new one but unfortunately the new hose does not click back into place correctly. The filter housing opens by itself, when pushing back the handle for commencement of cleaning there is a huge click and the brush bar has worn out again. On contacting the Dyson helpline they said that I was going over the edge of the carpet while vacuuming and wearing out the brush bar. Are they .psychic? How do they know? The brush bar is only guaranteed for a year so I would have to buy another. This is clearly a design issue. Dyson said that they would send someone out for £60 who would overhaul the machine but I could buy a new one for £140. The dyson helpline is very good but it needs to be for this product. No matter what problems you describe they always have an answer snd its never the machines fault. All new dysons are guaranteed for 5 years so some would say that is long enough. I say I'm going to buy a Henry!
